Eczema is a skin condition common among redheads. Eczema can appear on different parts of the face and body and flare-ups are caused by numerous things including weather, skin irritants, skincare products, and allergies. Eliminating eczema can be a long and frustrating battle, but we’ve got a few tips for helping to reduce flare-ups and minimize redness, dryness, and itching.
1. Stay hydrated
Eczema results in red, dry, itchy skin. Staying hydrated will help to reduce the dryness and keep the skin nourished.
2. Moisturize
Many people suffer from eczema in the colder months of the year due to excess dryness. Keeping your skin moisturized year-round will help minimize flare-ups.

3. Turn down the heat
Heat can cause dryness which irritates eczema. Turn down the heat of your water when bathing to help reduce irritation. Additionally, exposing yourself to excess heat in other areas may cause your eczema to worsen. Mild temperatures are best for those suffering from eczema.
4. Get a humidifier
Adding some moisture back into the air can help give you some relief from your dry, itchy skin which will reduce redness and pain.
5. Know what triggers your eczema
Everyone has a different trigger — whether it is wine, spicy foods, too much sun, skincare products, or even certain food ingredients.
6. Don’t itch, pick or rub
Always wash your hands before touching your skin when suffering from a flare-up, and avoid itching, picking, or rubbing the irritated area.
7. Use products for sensitive Skin
If you suffer from eczema your skin is very sensitive. Make sure you are only using products designed for those with more sensitive skin.
8. Do a DIY relief treatment
There are a number of at-home treatments to help reduce redness, pain, and itching including oatmeal baths and oil treatments.
9. Try eczema creams
One of the best ways to get rid of eczema is to use over-the-counter topical creams on the affected areas. We love this simple eczema cream over-the-counter.
10. Talk with a dermatologist
For severe eczema or eczema that is causing you pain, be sure to consult a dermatologist for a more specialized approach to eliminating the skin condition.
11. Get a medicated treatment
When speaking with a dermatologist, a medicated treatment may be an option. This will be higher strength and more targeted than an over-the-counter treatment.
