If there’s one thing that most redheads have in common besides our stunning hair color, it’s the journey we take to love our hair. This journey can take years and isn’t always a linear path. Also, many outside factors can impact how redheads feel about their hair. So if it took you a long time, or you’re still learning, that’s normal!
What sparks the aversion?
Even celebs go through it
It might feel isolating to feel this way about your hair, but even iconic redhead celebs like Lindsay Lohan have had to take this journey. In an interview with Elle, Lohan said, “Redheads are unique, and their hair is beautiful. It’s a special color. As you get older, you learn to appreciate your natural beauty. It took me a long time because it wasn’t cool to have red hair when I was a kid. [I] kind of felt like an outcast when I was young, but that’s changed so much. Now I really embrace my red hair.”

How to embrace your color?
- Be kind: Don’t speak negatively about your hair or yourself. Speak kindly to yourself the way you would to a friend. The more you do this, the more you will believe it.
- Look for beauty in others: Sometimes it’s easier to appreciate red hair on someone else, so look for celebs, influencers, friends, and family who share your color. Notice their beauty and remember you have that in common.
- Find your community: Having a community of redheads will help you on your journey. Others may have advice or, at the very least, can understand your feelings.
- Fake it till you make it: This journey depends on you alone, so trick yourself into feeling confident. Before you know it, the confidence might become real.
- Enhance your features: As much as you might want to shy away from your red hair, when you look good, you feel good. Enhance your redhead features, get a great haircut, and try to embrace what you were born with.
