Learn to Love Your Curly Red Locks

Lots of redheads have curly or wavy hair, but choose to wear it straight or relaxed. That is me in a nutshell. My natural red hair is curly, frizzy and super-long. The first word that comes to mind when I think about it is: wild. Embracing your natural hair texture is something that can take a lot of getting used to, so here are a few tips on how I embrace my naturally curly red hair: 

Use the Right Products

As you can see (left, below) I always preferred straight hair. But I have learned to love my curls (right, below) thanks to using the right products. You want to use products that won’t weigh your curls down or cause them to frizz up. This means avoiding things with silicones and looking for products specifically for curly hair.

Encourage Your Curl Pattern

If your curls or waves are limp and lack volume and body, you might be discouraged from wearing your hair naturally. The best way to get your bounce back is by encouraging your curl pattern. This means laying off the heat, using products that help form curls, and even manually forming the curls when your hair is wet with a curl brush. It will take time and practice to get your curl pattern back to normal, but it will be worth it!

Learn How to Style Curly/Wavy Hair

If you’ve worn your hair straight for a long time, you might not feel confident when styling your curly or wavy hair. Try learning new ways to style it through online articles, YouTube/TikTok videos, and a little bit of trial and error. Over time you will learn what length you like your hair at and what styles work for you.
