Sunscreen Sticks 101: What Are They, How Much to Use & Tips for Applying

Everything You Need to Know About This Handy SPF Formula

We’re used to seeing sunscreen in a liquid or spray form, and while both of those are great sun protection options, there is another option. Sunscreen sticks are a great product to add to your spring and summer sun protection plan, and we’ve got all the info you need to know.

What exactly are sunscreen sticks?

Sunscreen sticks are just like regular liquid SPF products but in a solid form. You can glide them on for a mess-free, easy application on your face or body.

How much do you apply?

Apply a layer from head to toe. Some prefer sunscreen sticks strictly for the face because they can easily be applied. But, you want to apply enough to have a consistent layer on your skin.

What are the benefits of sunscreen sticks?

Sunscreen sticks have tons of benefits, so if you’re not using one already we suggest adding one to your arsenal of SPF products. Some of the benefits include:

  • Mess-free application
  • Easy application in sensitive areas like around your eyes
  • Perfect for application on the go
  • TSA friendly for travel
  • Customized coverage
  • Less product waste than spray or liquid formulas

Special redhead tips for using sunscreen sticks:

Sunscreen sticks can take a little time to get used to if you normally use liquid or spray SPF products. Be sure to opt for something with at least 30 SPF, roll/push the stick up high enough to prevent scratching of the skin, apply in a methodical pattern to achieve full-body coverage, and pair with other forms of sun protection for max protection.

Remember, redheads are more prone to melanoma (even without increase in sun exposure), so we must use every precaution necessary!
