When it comes to choosing a signature metal, most of us have a preference between silver and gold. Your preference may come from pieces you already own, what’s popular, or the gems you like paired with your jewelry. But, what really looks best on redheads?
Many articles you read will recommend choosing jewelry based on your skin tone. You may see the following rules:
Cool-toned redheads = complemented more by silver, white gold, and platinum.
Warm-toned redheads = better in gold and rose gold.
To see if you’re cool or warm toned, it’s best to do the “vein test”. Look at the veins on your wrist under natural light. If they appear more greenish, you likely have a warm undertone. If they look more bluish, your undertone is likely cool.
Want to know a secret? Redheads are unique creatures who may have cool-toned skin but super warm hair. Or, vise versa. This means gold could look good on cool-toned skinned redheads too.
If you do want to complement your hair, we recommend taking your skin tone out of the equation. Gold will make your hair look warmer and may help to pick up more of the varying red tones throughout. Silver will create a contrast that may make your hair look more vibrant.
To determine the best jewelry shade for you, you can try the following alternative methods:
1. Jewelry test:
This is the most simple option. Wear both gold and silver jewelry separately and see which one enhances your complexion better and which one feels more like “you”.
2. There are no rules:
The truth is, while one metal shade may complement your skin tone more, there are no rules. If you like a metal or a piece of jewelry, wear it. Mixing metals is also very popular and a great way to have the best of both worlds.
