Royal Baby Archie: ‘Happy Baby’ with ‘Tufts of Reddish Hair’

Is this confirmation that he is in fact a redhead?

Updated: April 19, 2021. Scroll below for update!

In the spring of 2018, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they were expecting a baby. When the news broke, many people wondered if the baby would have red hair. H2BAR posted many polls on social media and about 50% thought it was a possibility and 50% said absolutely no.

However, on August 15, 2019, People quoted a source who finally affirmed that Archie IS becoming a redhead, “He has lovely, puffy little legs and tufts of reddish hair. He’s really adorable.”

This is truly the best news! Now we want to know: will his hair color be similar to his dad’s? Will it be more vibrant? Or will it be more strawberry blonde and fade into blonde? Time will tell!

The interesting fact is to have red hair, the MC1R gene must be found in both parents. We all know Prince Harry has the MC1R gene (and is a very proud redhead), so this means Meghan’s family has red hair somewhere in her family lineage.

None of Meghan’s immediate family has red hair. Her father, Thomas Markle, who is white, seems to be mostly brunette, while her mother, Doria Ragland, who is black, has dark-brown hair similar to Meghan’s. Jamie Speer, a genetic counselor with RMA of Connecticut, spoke with InStyle Magazine about Archie’s (possible) red hair. “The trait is very uncommon in Africans and African-Americans,” he says. “However, she could still be a carrier from her parent who is Caucasian, depending on the country of origin.”

Let’s also take a look at Prince Harry. His mom and dad both had blonde hair, so did his older brother, and then Harry was born with red hair.

Princess Diana’s sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale (pictured below), has beautiful red hair, while her other brother and sister — Charles and Jane — both had red-tinted hair when they were younger. The royal line does have redheads throughout the family tree, including Queen Victoria, Edward VIII, and today, besides Prince Harry, his cousin Princess Beatrice.

We have seen very few photos of Archie. But, if you take a close look at him, especially in the black and white photo (below) released by the Royal family, you will see how fair his eyebrows are!

They look like redhead brows to us.

What are your thoughts? Are you finally convinced he’s a redhead? Or waiting to see a photo when he’s a bit older?

UPDATE: APRIL 19, 2021

We haven’t seen many recent photos of Baby Archie but he does seem to resemble Prince Harry quite well! He may grow out of the “tufts of red hair” but we agree: he is awfully cute. Scroll below for photos from the most recent Christmas holiday and more.

What are your thoughts? Redhead or not?
