2014 Miss Tennessee National Teenager: Shares Her Curly Hair Secrets

By: Mattanah DeWitt

When I was a preteen and young teenager, I would get SO frustrated with my curly red hair. Not only did it stand out in a crowd because of its color, but it seemed to always be a frizzy mess. After searching every beauty supply store in my town and experimenting with product after product, I finally found the tools which worked best for my unique hair. I even used this very routine for styling my hair the night I won the title of 2014 Miss Tennessee National Teenager! I am excited to share (in detail) everything you need to know to start the day off right.

This is how to Rock it like a Curly Redhead*:

Step 1: Wash hair using Matrix Biolage Ultra Hyra-Source Shampoo and Conditioner. This product is my personal favorite for keeping my hair healthy, vibrant and moisturized.

Step 2: Dry hair with a handkerchief. Be sure to squeeze the hair, keeping it slightly damp. Do not brush the hair! Instead, work out knots by combing through the hair with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb.

Step 3: Flip head over and apply 2-3 pumps of Catwalk Curls Rock Amplifier by scrunching the hair. Make sure all portions of hair are evenly covered with the gel.

Step 4: After the hair has air-dried for 30 minutes, diffuse it with a hair dryer until it is completely dry.

Step 5: Once the hair is completely dry, finish styling it however you choose. Do check out How to Be a Redhead’s bobby pins, hair ties, and bun makers for red hair.

Step 6: Lastly, spray hair with Affinia Natural Hold Hairspray to keep your hair in place for the rest of the day.

The end result makes the hair look moisturized and healthy. Gotta love being a curly redhead. Rock it like a Redhead!
