Put a Spring into your Skin

By: Jacqueline Arthur

Spring is finally starting to make an appearance across the pond here in the UK. (You took your time Spring, but I forgive you!) If, like me, you’re a redhead who rocks a fair complexion, I’m sure you will know the toll that winter (if you live in colder climes) can take on your skin.

Redheads, it’s now time to say goodbye to drab and hello to fab!

It’s time to give our skin a pick-me-up, and nurse it back to health after a few months of it feeling sorry for itself, and trying to battle against the bitter elements….And even if you do not have a fair complexion, Spring is still a great time to breathe new life into your skin, and give it a well-deserved pamper.

Spring is the season for re-birth. Here are the top tips for breathing new life into our skin, and get it ready for spring!

1. Hydrate

This is probably the best way you can get your skin back on track. Make sure you drink lots of water because it will not only hydrate your skin, but will help you get on the right track to an overall healthy lifestyle. So get glugging.

Make sure you moisturize your skin. This will help keep it soft, supple, and extra hydrated. Pick a moisturiser that is suitable for your skin type, that isn’t too heavy, with ingredients that are kind to skin. And if your moisturiser has SPF too, well, that’s just fantastic! Try: Simple “Kind To Skin” Hydrating Light Moisturizer.

After hydrating and moisturizing, give your skin a mini-pamper and give it some breakfast so that it is prepped, ready for the day ahead. I am a huge fan of The Body Shop “Vitamin C Skin Reviver“. The Vitamin C helps to enhance your natural glow and helps smooth out any dry areas of the skin; because a ghostly, flaky face in the morning is a big “no-no”.

2. Always Use Protection

Now that it is getting warmer and sunnier, it is time for us ‘reds’ to really amp up our skin protecting regimen. Wearing sunscreen is of ultra-importance to protect our skin from those pesky UV rays, and thus, prevent it from looking aged before its time.

REDHEAD RULE: Try to go for a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 25. If you are very fair, go for a higher SPF. Remember, having sunburn is not fun… and not sexy!

3. Wear a Mask

Redheads deserve a pamper every now and there is no better feeling than smoothing on a face mask that is feeding your skin bringing it back to life.

Opt for a face mask that will work against your skin issues. If you have dry skin, go for a mask with hydrating properties. If, like me, you suffer from the odd skin eruption, go for a mask with soothing, and zit-battling ingredients. Most importantly, invest in a product with natural ingredients. If a mask has a list of ingredients that you cannot pronounce and do not recognise, don’t take the risk. We ravishing reds need to look after our skin, so steer clear from harsh ingredients and properties.

If you’re unsure about what product to go for, get out there and ask. Explain what your skin type is, and what results you want to see. Even better – buy your cleanser and mask together. Go for products that work in harmony for the same end result and you’re on to a winner. I did this, and my skin has looked the clearest it has in ages!

If you have problem/combination skin, try LUSH “Mask of Magnaminty.” Apply it 1-2 times a week.

4. Go for Greens

Go for a healthier diet, packed full of bright colors. Fruits and vegetables are jam-packed full of vitamins and minerals that will help feed your skin and keep it healthy. Spring is a great time to kick old habits, so throw out the junk food, forgo the fizzy drinks, and swap these for a fridge full of fresh produce. You don’t have to turn into a chef overnight. It could be just a case of swapping that naughty chocolate bar for a banana, and changing that can of fizzy drink to a bottle of water.

If you do like to cook, take the opportunity to try out new food and recipes. Throw dinner parties for friends and family, and  take some of your redhead fire and put it into your food. You’ll be amazed at what a change in diet will do for you. Not just for your skin, but for your body too!

Rock it like a Redhead!
