Podcast S5 EP21: Makeup Tips With Celeb Redhead Makeup Artist

Tips from professional makeup and hairstylist, Courtney Housner

Courtney Housner

Finding makeup products for redheads hasn’t been easy. For years, redheads had to compromise on colors and try to find workarounds for certain products. At How to be a Redhead we struggled with this need and started to fill the gap ourselves with our bestselling Finally Have Brows® and Finally Have Lashes®. As time goes on, the makeup industry is becoming more inclusive, and with red hair trending for many years we’re finally seeing redhead products from big-name brands (yay!).

Another hurdle many redheads face is having makeup artists who know how to work with their sensitive skin and complexion. Thankfully, there are redhead makeup artists in the world. On this episode, Adrienne + Stephanie interview Courtney Housner. She is a redhead, celebrity makeup artist, and hairstylist. She began her career in entertainment in 2012. Since embarking on the journey as a freelance artist, she has participated in a number of projects ranging from music videos, magazine publications, commercials, feature films, creating custom wigs/styling, and red carpet events.

Courtney has become a personal hair/makeup artist to some of Hollywood’s stars such as Jay Shetty, Don Toliver, Jharrel Jerome, Toheeb Jimoh, Nia and Bill Burr, and Giancarlo Esposito.

Her work can be seen on the pages of Vogue, Teen Vogue, Glamour, People, Deadline, Bustle, Variety, and Vulkan.

During their chat with Courtney, Adrienne and Stephanie talked with her about her journey as a hairstylist and makeup artist and asked what inspired her to pursue this career path. We also discussed how her skincare and haircare needs changed when moving from the Midwest to LA.

They also asked some more technical questions like: “What are some common mistakes that people make when applying makeup”, and even asked her to recommend two essential products for those just getting into makeup, and asked if she could share any tips or tricks for maintaining healthy hair and skin. Of course, red hair is the focus of the episode, so Courtney shared some info on if she boosts the vibrancy of her hair. And, she even talked all about hair extensions.
