Ah, the makeup aisle at your local drugstore. It can be an endless sea of uncertainty, wasted time and money.
Redheads have unique coloring and undertones in their skin, which can make ‘Redhead Friendly’ approved makeup purchases very personal.
For strawberry blondes, like myself, it’s all about choosing the right shades and colors to complement light locks without looking washed out.
When scoping out the best products for strawberry locks and complexion, the first question you need to ask yourself is: are you “cool” or “warm” toned?
Warm Tones: This means you have peaches, reds, and purples mixed into your skin color. You may have been told you have olive skin.
Cool Tones: This means that you have a blue-green tint to go with that fleshy skin color. You mnay have been told your skin is white or porcelain.
You can also be a mix of warm and cool like me. With a lot of hard work, I have found some wonderful ‘Redhead Friendly’ approved produts.
Here’s my guide:
Create a smooth application and reduce pores with Benefit Cosmetics POREfessional Pro Balm Face Primer Pore Minimizer. Wait a few seconds to dry, then apply your favorite foundation.
Since my skin tone is a combination of warm and cool, I like to mix two of my foundations together. I love BB and/or CC cream. Mary Kay CC Cream Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15 (in ‘very light’) and CoverGirl Aquasmooth SPF 20 Compact Foundation are my favorites. They both are lightweight and buildable options – with SPF!
If I don’t have time for the above, I love tinted moisturizers because they can most of your time and usually give an accurate shade. Read about some recommended tinted moisturizers for redheads here.
3. Eyeshow, Mascara and Eyebrows
My three favorites! Explore some color on your lids with the help from Urban Decay Naked3 Eyeshadow Palette. Next, apply Benefit They’re Real in Beyond Brown to your lashes and fill in those brows with Anastasia DIPBROW Pomade in Blonde or Auburn –– depending on your natural brow color.
4. Perfected Pout
Redheads, especially strawberry blondes, CAN really rock a red lipstick. I especially love a deep cranberry red. Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly (a shimmering sultry mauve) and Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey (a sheer pigmented red) are two ‘redhead friendly’ options to make your lips pop.
Rock it like a Redhead!
