Is it just me or do I see a trend here? It seems like the producers of the Jurassic Park love to choose a redhead as one of the leading actresses.
Who remembers Julianne Moore as Dr. Sarah Harding in The Lost World: Jurassic Park? She played an animal behaviorist who worked in the African savanna. She showed great heroism and intelligence throughout the movie and what redhead doesn’t love to see that?
And, let’s not forget about ginger-haired Laura Dern who was in Steven Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park film in 1993.
The new Jurassic Park movie, Jurassic World, was just released today, June 12, 2015 in North America. Bryce Dallas Howard (daughter of famous redhead Ron Howard) stars as the beautiful redheaded actress. Bryce’s character plays Claire Dearing who is the park operations manager for the dinosaur park. According to Bryce Dallas Howard, Claire’s actress, she is a “workaholic” and has a Type A personality.
It’s nice to see her play an ambitious character and perhaps a character some of us redheads can easily relate to!
I am guessing (just like the rest of you) that Jurassic Park cast redheads because they’re typically viewed as “strong” by movie audiences. Psychologist Andrew J. Elliot did a study to test if color, despite cross-cultural differences, affected the emotional state of people. He found the color ‘red’ was perceived as strong and active.
And, besides being viewed in certain light, let’s not forget redhead celebrities have many hidden talents besides the color of their hair.
Just this week, while making the promotional rounds for the upcoming Jurassic World film, the Bryce Dallas Howard stopped by Conan O’Brien on Wednesday night, where she revealed one of her talents–she can cry on command.
“You can cry on command?” Conan asked Bryce. “Really? How long do you need to prepare for that?”
“I mean, I think if we just keep talking–at some point–I should probably drink some water,” she said, making sure to hydrate herself before letting the waterworks loose.

Nevertheless, it’s great to see redhead women playing empowering roles in films. It shows the world that redheads are are strong, smart and courageous.
