How to Rock Red this Season

By: Jacqueline Arthur

Can redheads wear red? I used to think of red as a color I needed to run away from. Red hair. Red clothes. Too much!

But in recent years, I have learned to embrace red as a part of my wardrobe. It’s color-blocking at its very best.

Here are a few ways to incorporate red in your life:

Red Lips

Rockin’ a red lip is the quickest and simplest way to incorporate red into your life. Before reaching for a lipstick, make sure you look to your complexion and hair to pick a shade that complements you best. I like to opt for richer, berry reds which don’t overpower my skin. MAC ‘Dubonnet’ is my go-to color.

Remember that lipsticks with a blue undertone can make teeth look brighter too!

Red Nails

Is a red lip too much for you? With a set of ravishing red nails we redheads will instantly look – and feel – so glamorous. Red is also a fabulous color to combine in to your style in the lead-up to the festive season. I am loving OPI ‘But I’m not a Waitress’ at the moment.

For the perfect fall look, pick a lipstick and nail polish shade that match for an instant injection of glamour. This combination is also an awesome and understated way to accessorise a party look.

Red Shoes

So, redheads…. How many of you out there love your shoes? I know I couldn’t live without my pairs of killer heels. By putting on a pair of red heels, we can instantly make an outfit look that extra bit more fabulous. And by adding in red as an accessory, we are distancing the color from our hair, meaning that both our head and our heels POP.

Red Jeans

I must admit when colourful jeans began to make their way in to stores, I was dubious. But now, several years – and several pairs – later, I’m completely converted. A big bold pair of pants is a fabulous way of adding some power to a simple outfit, and red is the perfect color to be in keeping with the season. Redheads can opt for bolder or richer reds because the color isn’t directly next to our hair, so it won’t overpower the luscious locks.

The L.R.D

This season, instead of opting for a Little Black Dress, go for a Little Red Dress instead. The little red dress is perfect for the redhead who wants to make a big bold beautiful statement and isn’t afraid to shy away from color. The color of your lovely locks will tell you which shades will suit you best, but I’m a firm believer that redheads can pull off any shade with a fabulous attitude.

Tip: If you decide to go for a red dress, keep your accessories simple and understated. This will help the dress – and more importantly your hair – stand out.
