Whether you’re a makeup newbie or you just struggle with eyeliner application, getting a precise liner that hugs the lash line can take a lot of practice. As redheads, most of us have light eyelashes, so any gap in our eyeliner can be very obvious. Here are our tips for getting a nice, tight liner look.
Use a sharp tip
Having a sharp tip to your eyeliner applicator will help you be more precise and help you get closest to the lash line. If you’re using a liquid eyeliner, make sure your tip isn’t bent and is at the smallest point possible. If you’re using a pencil liner, be sure to sharpen it to a nice point. For gel or powder liner, make sure you’re using a small angled brush for application.
Take your time
Going too fast can cause your eyeliner to be uneven and potentially leave gaps. Try using slow sweeping motions to create a fluid line. If you’re new to eyeliner, you can also work in small sections, just make sure to keep them all connected.
Smudge it out
When you’re just starting out, it will take a lot of trial and error. Don’t worry because a soft liner look is in right now. If you mess up a little try smudging it out for a softer look that fills the gaps.
Tighten your skin
One of the main reasons we can’t get our liner close enough to the lash line, or end up with gaps is because of the folds in our eyelids. Try pulling the skin taut at the corner of the eye to help create a smooth surface.
Tightline your eye
Tightlining is when you apply eyeliner inside the lash line to help fill the gaps. You can use a pencil, or a gel-liner with angled brush. For those of us with blonde lashes, it might still feel like you’ve got some lightness showing through. Try tightening your eye to help minimize this look.
