How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes and Tools

How to wash your redhead-approved brushes and sponges

With everything happening in the world right now, we thought this would be the perfect time to discuss how to sanitize and clean your makeup brushes and tools. Earlier this month, we featured a 10-piece vegan makeup brush set in the March Deluxe H2BAR Box and a beauty sponge in the March Monthly H2BAR Box.

Makeup brushes and tools (like a beauty sponge) can collect bacteria and it can lead to clogged pores and breakouts. Try washing your redhead-approved brushes and sponges at least once a week to prevent product buildup, extend the life of the bristles and make for better product application.

What’s the right way to clean makeup brushes?

Wet the bristles in lukewarm water. Place a few drops of your makeup brush cleanser or regular Dawn soap into your palm. Gently massage the soap onto the bristles. Rinse and squeeze any remaining water. Let the brushes hang off the edge of the bathroom counter, which allows the brushes to dry in the correct shape.
