You’ve been wondering, you’ve asked us in DMs and now we’re giving you the low-down. How do you brush and tame red hair without it getting frizzy and poofy? Here are a few tips on how to properly brush your curly red hair.
Curly red hair takes a bit more maintenance and a bit more patience than non-curly hair. Finding a routine that works for you and sticking to it will help your curls be more healthier and defined.
1. Prep your curls
Before getting into the shower to wash your hair, finger brush your red curls to remove any big knots. You can use a detangling wide-tooth comb here to prep your red hair before washing.
2. Only brush when wet and brush properly
After washing and conditioning your red hair, grab your wide-tooth comb again to gently brush it. Make sure your hair is soaking wet if you are attempting this step. You can choose to brush while the conditioner is in your hair or after you have rinsed it out. Find what works for you.
Remember, the only time you should be brushing your red curls is when they are wet. Brushing dry red hair will just create frizz. Always brush from ends to roots, not roots to ends. This will avoid breakage and damage to your curls. A great way to define your curls is to use a specially shaped brush like The Denman Brush while your hair is wet.
3. Style it
When blow-drying your red hair, avoid using high heat and always use a diffuser to keep your curls nice. Air drying is best for keeping frizz at bay.
4. Combat frizz
If you wake up with frizz or flyaways, use a detangling or leave-in spray, like the Shea Moisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Leave-In Treatment, to reactivate the curls. Then, damp your brush to detangle. Apply an oil and let your red hair air dry. Only do this when hair is wet.
5. Leave your curls alone
Avoid touching your red hair as much as possible! We know it’s hard but it can disrupt your curls and create frizz.
