The Little Mermaid reboot is coming to a theater near you!
This week, the news broke that Halle Bailey, the 19-year-old singer, who is half of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, will star as Ariel in Disney’s remake.
Director Rob Marshall said in a statement, “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance—plus a glorious singing voice—all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.” The quality of her voice is absolutely amazing –– it’s no wonder Beyoncé fell in love with her when she discovered Bailey and signed her to her record label.”

According to Variety, The Little Mermaid will include original songs from the 1989 animated hit as well as new tunes from original composer Alan Menken and “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Bailey will join Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina and Melissa McCarthy, who will play Ursala.
Disney has not yet confirmed when The Little Mermaid will start shooting or come out.
We wonder if Bailey will rock red hair! What do you think?
