Embracing Your Freckles and Ways to Enhance Them

When the co-founder of How to be a Redhead, Stephanie, was in her early teenage years, she disliked her freckles and red hair. She dyed her hair blonde for over eight years and went through a ‘Lindsay Lohan stage’ to try and cover up her freckles with heavy makeup. Years later, she began embracing her natural hues and sun kisses. Stephanie now loves and respects her freckles, and is so happy she has unique features.

Not only can you embrace your freckles, but you can enhance them to look even more beautiful.

Here are five tips and tricks to make your freckles shine:

1. Mineral Powder Foundation:

Choose a loose powder makeup foundation. It will bring out your freckles in a natural way, and remember to blend the makeup near your neck to avoid any lines.

Tip: Stay away from heavy liquid foundations because those will actually cover up your freckles.

2. Tinted Moisturizer:

A light tinted moisturizer can cover up any uneven areas of the skin and make freckles look even more gorgeous. It is recommended you do not use a mineral foundation and tinted moisturizer together because it will cover up your freckles and feel very heavy on your skin.

3. Blush & Bronzer:

A pink based blush and a subtle bronzer can make your freckles glisten and pop. Simply sweep your cheekbones with a pink blush and add a tiny bit of bronzer over the blush.

4. Lipstick:

You should choose a lipstick or lipgloss that won’t overpower your freckles. For best results, opt for a pinky-nude color.

5. Draw More On:

Yes! You can draw more freckles on your skin and it’s so easy. For a more natural look, opt for an eye pencil. Choose a color that is closest to the color of your freckles; whether it be dark blonde, red or brown. Lightly dot the eye pencil on your skin, especially where the sun hits your face: along your cheekbone and under your eyes. If you are wearing a cute top this summer to show off shoulders, add some freckles on your shoulders.

Remember, freckles are beautiful and are just as special as your red hair.
