There’s a new redhead in town. It’s an Amazon original called Daisy Jones & the Six. The show is based on the 2019 book of the same title by author Taylor Jenkins Reid. The story follows a 1970s rock group with lead singer and redhead icon, Daisy Jones, front and center. Daily is played by Riley Keough who went red for the role.
In a People magazine article, Keough’s hair stylist Mayann Hennings gives the inside scoop on the transformation that happened. Hennings talks about how the color of the character’s hair was super important to the project because it’s what gave Riley/Daisy the confidence the actor/character needed.
Hennings talks about the process of going red saying, “We made Riley this bright red. She’s normally dark-haired, so I lightened it, put this bright red on it, and then put a gloss over it that just made the whole thing shine. And with her curls, that color made her a rock star. I felt like the wardrobe, that color and that long hair just took her to a new level.”
The hairstylist also talks about the process to keep Keough that same vibrant red throughout filming, saying they had to touch it up every three weeks and added glazes to make the red pop.
We would have loved to see a natural redhead play Daisy, but we’ll take all the redhead representation we can get.
Daisy Jones & the Six premiered on Prime Video on Friday, March 3, 2023.
