Every redhead should feel fortunate to have beautiful, enviable red hair. Keeping red hair nourished and healthy, without breaking the bank, is something we all try to achieve. Sometimes trying to look and feel our absolute best includes the use of heating tools, which can cause some serious heat damage. Seasonal changes can also cause our red hair to feel brittle and in need of some TLC. I have an inexpensive cure that will solve all your tangled worries: organic coconut oil!
People have been using coconut oil to cook for a long time. Many people also decide to use it as a replacement for body lotion because of it’s very moisturizing properties. I recently read that it can be used as a hair moisture treatment as well, so I wanted to give it a try on my own hair. Coconut oil is an oil our hair can naturally absorb better than any other. It is meant to be used as a “pre-washing” moisture treatment.

Here is how you can use coconut oil as a hair mask for your beautiful red hair:
Step 1: Use the right product
Scoop out a handful of organic (make sure it is organic to get its full effect) virgin coconut oil. I used Trader Joe’s brand, but you can use any organic brand.
Step 2. Use the right amount for your red hair
Depending on how thick or long your hair depends on the amount you should use. If your hair is long and thick, use an extra big scoop.
Step 3: Spread oil evenly
Slowly spread the oil through your dry hair. The oil will start to melt in the palm of your hand because of your body heat.
Step 4: Comb through hair
Completely saturate your hair with the oil while focusing on dry areas most. Comb through with a wide-tooth comb to distribute the oil evenly throughout.
Step 5: Twist hair in a high bun
I like to twist my hair into a high bun to keep my oiled hair from getting all over my clothes. I leave the oil in my hair for at least 30 minutes. Wash and condition your hair as you normally would. Sometimes two shampoos are necessary to rinse away the oil.
Final Result:
Style your red hair as you normally would and be amazed at how soft, smooth and manageable it becomes!
I recommend doing this treatment 1-3 times per week. If you have thinner hair, once a week should suffice or else your hair will be weighed down. If you have thicker hair, you can do it 2-3 times per week. Coconut oil treatments have been proven to decrease the amount of protein loss in your hair naturally with each treatment. Adding a little coconut oil to your regular deep conditioning routine can also help prevent split ends, add moisture to your hair, and prevent heat damage.
This treatment has made such a huge difference in my hair’s health, strength and shine.
Will you try this on your own hair? Rock it like a Redhead!
