Real Talk: Yes, Clean Mascara Is Important For Redheads

What You're Putting on Your Eyes Matters

Updated: September 12, 2023

If there’s one thing redheads can all unanimously agree on, it’s that mascara is a desert island product. We would pick this one makeup product if we could only use one makeup product for the rest of our lives. And while for many redheads aim to find a mascara that can cover their blonde lashes, provides volume, separation, and curl, it turns out the ingredients that go into your mascara are even more important.

Clean beauty products are essential for redheads with sensitive skin, but one product we don’t usually give much thought to is our mascara. It’s very important for your mascaras to be clean, non-toxic, and free of harmful chemicals — this is something we call ‘redhead-approved’. The reason? Lashes are designed to keep debris out of our eyes and keep them clean. Anything we apply to our eyelashes has the opportunity to get into our eyes, tear ducts, and waterline. Studies have found your eyes actually can absorb what you put on it, and using mascaras formulated with harmful ingredients can put our bodies at risk.

Let’s not forget redheads are also sensitive-beings by nature. So, when we use a non-clean mascara, we will usually get rashes, irritations and teary eyes more quickly (and more commonly) than blondes and brunettes. Things you want to watch out for in your beauty products, especially mascara, include alcohol, paragons, phthalates, silicons, and talc. A clean mascara will be free of all these ingredients, and it will also be vegan and cruelty-free.

Clean mascaras aren’t always easy to find, and for redheads, it can be even harder to find something in a shade that works for you. That’s why we created Finally Have Lashes! H2BAR’s new mascara was formulated exclusively for redheads to be ‘sensitive-skin & sensitive-eye friendly’ and it comes in three amazing redhead shades: Red-y for Lashes Perfectly Auburn Redhead Mascara, Brown With a Splash of Red: Perfectly Brown Mascara, and A Full 180: Perfectly Black Mascara.
