Each and every year, a different shade of red hair trends as a popular option for those who are redheads ‘by choice’ or for those natural reds who want to enhance their color. Red hair has experienced periods of popularity for over two centuries, with notable surges in the last 100 years. One of the most prominent was the redhead craze of the 1920s, particularly in Paris and other parts of Europe. In the 1980s, actress Molly Ringwald became iconic in cult classic teen films, fueling a renewed fascination with red hair. The trend made another comeback in the 2000s, and now, in the 2020s, red hair remains a popular choice.
Numerous high-profile celebrities have embraced red hair in recent years, and new shades of red continue to emerge with regularity. But it’s uncertain how long the color will last each season. This season’s most sought-after hue is burnt orange.
According to Popsugar, burnt orange combines vibrant red and orange tones, creating a fiery, autumn-inspired glow. Stylist Kim Kimble shared with Popsugar, “While many people go blonde for summer and darker in the cooler months, this shade offers a fresh alternative. You can easily transition from blond to burnt orange by adding a red toner. It’s also a flattering color that suits a wide range of skin tones.” Burnt orange is considered one of the more natural-looking red shades, while other tones like “spiced cherry” and “foxy red” tend to be bold, falling on the “statement” end of the red spectrum.
As always, we love to see red hair continuing to trend and hope it maintains its popularity for decades, as blonde hair has. Ultimately, us natural redheads love our red hair, whether trendy or not, but it feels nice to see more redhead representation and appreciation for our look!
Rock it like a Redhead!
