Hair, Makeup & Fashion Takeaways From Redheads at the 2017 Oscars

Redheads always steal the show!

By: Suzy Guese

While almost everyone can’t get over the Best Picture announcement flub at the 89th Academy Awards (aka Oscars) — redheads really did steal the show!

Emma Stone took home the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Emma Roberts to classy Isabelle Huppert to Darby Stanchfield, had us swooning over their hair, makeup and fashion.

Here are just a few redhead fashion and beauty takeaways from the 2017 Oscars:

1. Redheads Rocked Several Shades of Red on Their Lips (+ Emma Stone’s Makeup Choices)

Emma Roberts, Emma Stone and Isabelle Huppert all sported varying shades of red on their lips for the Oscars.

Emma Roberts accessorized her black and creamy white gown with a classic red lip. The exact shade is Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Luminous Modern-Matte Lipstick in Red Carpet Red.

Fun Fact: Charlotte Tilbury herself is a natural redhead!

Isabelle Huppert sported more of a deep burgundy shade (try: Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick Vampira).

Since Emma Stone was the woman of the evening, her makeup artist, Rachel Goodwin spoke with Hollywood Reporter about the color palette she chose for the Best Actress winner.

Goodwin says she looked to the soft, bronzy and pale golds in the textured gown as well as 1930s beauty and pre-Raphaelite paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who immortalized countless ethereal redheads in his artwork.

“Rossetti had a lot of muses that were redheads, and I’ve always loved them. The combination of the golds and skin and red hair and the ethereal feeling of that angel-type woman is where I got the inspiration for the makeup,” Goodwin said.

Emma’s eyes were kept soft. Amber, bronze and gold picked up the texture and sparkle of the gown. She wore NARS Dual Intensity Blush in Jubilation and Copacabana Illuminator, then to Orgasm Liquid Blush to add a glow to the cheeks.

Rachel chose NARS Audacious Lipstick in Mona for Emma’s lips.

…Regardless, every redhead actress at the Oscars proved all redheads can rock a red lip too.

2. Old Hollywood Waves Suit Red Locks

There must be something in the water!

Emma Roberts, Darby Stanchfield, Amy Adams and Emma Stone all accented their red locks with a dash of old Hollywood glamor. All of these redheaded actresses styled their hair with a classic look of a deep side part coupled with loose waves. This “let your hair down” look is well suited for redheads as the dimension and complexity of red hair can truly take a bow.

3. Neutrals and Whites Make Red Hair SING!

Most of the redheads at the Oscars stuck to neutrals, silvers and whites for their Oscar looks.

Emma Stone wore a gold, fringe Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci ensemble, the perfect complement to her Oscar statue.

Isabelle Huppert shined in a custom Armani Privé embellished dress that glistened in a peachy cream hue.

Darby Stanchfield gave redheads everywhere a reason to wear bright white with her George Chakra Couture number.

Amy Adams, who presented at the Oscars, adorned a long-sleeved shimmering silver gown, a perfect balance with her strawberry locks.

4. Statement Worthy Nail Polish and Earrings Work on Redheads

While Darby Stanchfield rocked OPI ‘Pale to the Chief’, Isabelle Huppert proved you could choose a dark nail color, and make a statement in the process. The nails, combined with her auburn locks and the deep lip is perfection!

She kept her overall look soft but her nails stood out for their dark hue. Looking to replicate this look? Try essie – Licorice

Many of the redheads at the Oscars also made statements with their earrings. Chandelier style jewels dangled against the red hair of Darby Stanchfield and Emma Stone, while Isabelle Huppert rocked an ear cuff that we oh-so-adorned.
