H2BAR is 14 Years Old: A Timeline of How The Redhead Brand Has Evolved

Let's walk down memory lane together

How to be a Redhead is officially 14 years old, and all we can say is time really flies. We’re so grateful to have shared this incredible journey with all of you. We’re beyond excited about what’s ahead and can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on. But first, let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit where it all began—and everything that’s happened along the way:

2011-2012

In 2011, we set out to create an online beauty platform for redheads that we wish had existed when we were growing up. On January 11, 2011, HowtoBeaRedhead.com was officially launched! In the early days, we spent countless hours in NYC coffee shops and attending events, spreading the word about this exciting new concept.

2013

We began bringing HowtoBeaRedhead.com to life through our signature Rock it Like a Redhead events. These exclusive beauty events were designed to celebrate redhead beauty and connect with our community in person. Over the years, we hosted these vibrant gatherings in cities like New York City, Austin, Nashville, Seattle, and Chicago, creating unforgettable experiences and building lasting connections with redheads everywhere. Each event was an opportunity to showcase beauty tips, share inspiring stories, and empower redheads to embrace their unique beauty.

2014

This was the year we focused on building press coverage and generating excitement around How to be a Redhead. Our efforts paid off in a major way when we were featured in the Thanksgiving edition of The New York Times. This was a significant milestone for us, as it helped elevate the brand’s visibility and sparked new opportunities for growth.

2015

Through conversations with our event attendees, we quickly discovered that many redheads were eager to receive products directly at their doorsteps. In response to this demand, we launched the H2BAR Box—a subscription service that curated and delivered redhead-approved beauty products straight to our customers. For nearly a decade, the H2BAR Box became a beloved item, helping redheads discover the best products for their unique hair and skin needs.

During this time, we were also thrilled to learn that we had secured a book deal, which led us to begin writing “How to Be a Redhead” – The Book. This exciting new project allowed us to share our journey, beauty insights, and tips with an even wider audience. It was a major milestone that marked the beginning of an entirely new chapter for the brand.

2016

In 2016, we embarked on an exciting adventure, traveling to 16 cities across the country for the How to Be a Redhead book tour. This tour was an incredible opportunity to connect with redheads in diverse communities, share our passion for celebrating red hair, and promote the launch of our book. It was an unforgettable experience that deepened our connection with the redhead community and allowed us to spread the message of confidence and self-love in ways we never could have imagined.

2017-2018

We officially launched HowtoBeaRedhead’s e-commerce store! In tandem with the H2BAR Box, we were thrilled to ship thousands of packages each month, delivering redhead-approved beauty products directly to our customers’ doorsteps. We dedicated time and effort to promoting the H2BAR Box across a variety of platforms, spreading the word far and wide. Our goal was to reach as many redheads as possible, offering them products that would enhance their unique beauty and foster a deeper sense of confidence.

2019-2020

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we began developing the H2BAR beauty line, focusing on creating products tailored to redhead needs. With in-person events on hold, we brought the conversation online, engaging with our community through social media and virtual platforms. This allowed us to keep redheads involved in the process and build excitement for the upcoming product launch.

2021-2023

2024

Our episode of Shark Tank aired on February 16, 2024, marking a defining moment in the history of How to Be a Redhead. This incredible opportunity was the highlight of our year, driving significant growth for the brand. We introduced new products, refreshed our branding, and unveiled updated packaging. The Shark Tank experience  set the stage for an exciting new chapter in the brand’s journey.

2025

For our birthday this year, we released our newest addition to the H2BAR beauty line…Finally Bright® Concealers. Now, we can officially celebrate our 14th birthday and all that has gotten us this far. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds.
