Light, minimal makeup has been super on trend lately, and now that it’s summertime, it’s becoming even more popular. We all want that glowy, even skin tone, but wearing heavy, full-coverage foundations can be hot, heavy, and messy in the heat. Not everyone is comfortable going out and about without makeup on, and sometimes you just don’t want to. Redheads might want to avoid heavy foundation during the summer for several reasons:
1. Freckles and Natural Skin: Redheads often have freckles and fair skin that can be complemented by a lighter, more natural look. Heavy foundations can cover up these unique features rather than enhancing them.
2. Heat and Humidity: Summer weather can cause heavy foundations to feel uncomfortable and melt, leading to a less polished look. Lighter makeup allows the skin to breathe and helps avoid clogged pores.
3. Sun Protection: Many lighter foundations or tinted moisturizers contain SPF, providing necessary sun protection without the weight of a full-coverage foundation. This is especially important for redheads, who tend to have more sensitive skin.
4. Natural Glow: Embracing a lighter foundation can enhance the natural glow of the skin, giving a fresher, more youthful appearance which is perfect for the summer season.
5. Minimalist Trend: The minimalist makeup trend is popular, and it promotes using fewer products to achieve a more natural look. This can be particularly flattering for redheads, highlighting their unique coloring and features.
Foundation can help you feel more comfortable in your skin, but we’ve got some tricks that will help you ditch the heavy foundation and still look and feel your best this summer:
Opt for concealer.
We usually think of concealer as being for our under eyes and blemishes, but it’s way more versatile than you think. Do your skincare like normal and then apply some concealer under your eyes and on any blemishes. Using a damp makeup sponge, blend it out towards the edges of your face. Add a few dots in any problem areas too, then blend, blend, blend. This will help give you a lightweight look that adds some coverage and evens skin tone without feeling too heavy or looking like a lot of makeup.
Use a tinted SPF and/or skin tint.
A summertime makeup product we love is tinted SPF. It gives you extra protection and evens your skin tone. Tinted SPF can be worn alone or with other makeup. Apply your tinted SPF with a damp beauty sponge to get more even coverage.
Similar to a tinted SPF, skin tints are lightweight and don’t feel heavy on the skin. They also blend beautifully and leave your skin with just a little color and coverage. Skin tints are perfect for those with freckles who want to show them off! You can pair your skin tint with concealer and other makeup to get a full face, or just swipe on some redhead mascara and go!
Include blush, highlighter, and bronzer in your routine.
You can wear your favorite products without the foundation. Applying things like blush, highlight, and bronzer to bare skin (be sure you put your sunscreen on) is a great way to enhance your face and even let your freckles shine through. These products are more lightweight than wearing a full face and you can wear them together or alone to enhance the parts you want. We suggest opting for liquid versions of these products for the most natural look.
Lipstick and mascara can significantly enhance a redhead’s natural beauty.
..without the need for a heavy foundation:
1. Lipstick: Bold shades like coral, red, and berry can draw attention to the lips and complement the natural redness in a redhead’s hair. Finally Bold has hydrating ingredients that can keep the lips looking soft and healthy, adding to a dewy summer look.

2. Mascara: Defining the eyes with a redhead mascara can make the eyes stand out without needing heavy eye makeup. This helps create a polished look while keeping the face light and natural.
