Handle Those Hands: Best Hand Lotions for Winter Skin

Your sensitive redhead skin will love it.

If you are like me, you’re always searching for your sensitive redhead skin. Most products purchased are a hit or miss. Sometimes, it takes a week of red, inflamed skin to know it was a huge miss. Does this story sound very familiar?

That’s why redheads should turn to natural products with pure ingredients to make sure irritations are not an issue. Years ago, I made sure all of my facial products were 100% natural. But recently, I realized my hands were one of the biggest age tellers on the body. My hands are getting abused due to the bone-chilling temperatures and endless cleaning during the holiday season. The damage always shows up on my hands and that’s when you know it’s time to do some pampering.

Here are some ‘redhead friendly’ products to keep hands soft, smooth, healthy and young-looking during the winter months:

1. Virgin Coconut Oil – This oil is becoming more and more popular every single day. Coconut oil is about 50% lauric acid which is a rare fatty acid that supports healthy metabolism.  It is now being studied for its anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial health-protecting properties. Virgin Coconut Oil is a great way to moisturize your hands while also killing germs and bacteria, and setting up a barrier to keep others from getting through.

For an at-home treatment, purchase a jar of organic extra-virgin coconut oil (available in health food stores as well as in most market baking departments) and place it in the refrigerator. When ready, put a pair of white socks in the microwave for 20 seconds. While warming, coat hands with the cold, solidified oil then place your hands inside the white socks. Sit & relax for 20 min. Remove gloves and rub in any excess oil. Sit back, relax and let your hands absorb the treatment.

2. Burt’s Bees Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Cream – I am really partial to the scent of almonds, but this Burt’s Bee’s Hand Cream is probably the best, easy-to-get retail product I have ever used. Formulated with sweet almond oil and Vitamin E, these natural moisturizers and conditioners are then sealed in with beeswax to keep your hands soft, conditioned and protected for a long amount of time. The jar is not huge for the price, but you do not need a lot for great results.

3. Nubian Indian Hemp & Haitian Vetiver Hand Cream – You want natural? This Nubian hand cream is as natural as it gets! And it has everything a sensitive redhead would want for her hands. This nutrient-rich, long lasting moisture treatment is fortified with multi-vitamins, healing vegetable butters and oils to repair, moisturize, and strengthen hard-working hands.

Don’t let those hands take any abuse this season. Pamper them when you can and treat them right during their “down” time. They will thank you.

Rock it like a Redhead!
