Learning to love your red hair can be a journey. For some redheads, appreciation for red hair comes early and naturally, for others it can take many years, trials, tribulations and a lot of self-confidence. No matter if you’re obsessed with your red hair, or still on the way to loving it, it’s always nice to have a little confidence boost.
We at How to be a Redhead coined the day National Love Your Red Hair Day. It takes place every November 5th and was created to spread love and awareness for gorgeous red hair. Make sure to celebrate with us using hashtag #LoveYourRedHairDay and mark the day in your calendar!
Here are 5 things you might need to hear to boost your confidence in your red hair.
1. Red hair has trended year after year and is popular
Red hair has been topping the hair trend charts for the last two years more than ever before. Red, copper, and ginger hair colors are so in — celebrities and influencers are hopping on the trend and dyeing their hair red to look like natural redheads. Freckles, a common trait among redheads, have also been trending and many are trying to replicate freckles by tattooing them to the skin, or using fake freckle techniques.
2. Red hair has been worshipped for centuries
Redheads can be found throughout some of history’s greatest works of art. This is not because the world was overrun by redheads, it’s because redheads were seen as so unique, so beautiful, and so interesting that they became muses for painters and other artists.

3. Jealous teasing is a real thing
If you were picked on or teased as a kid, chances are you heard someone say, “They’re teasing you because they are jealous”. While this statement can be problematic in teaching young women that being bullied or being mistreated = a form of affection, it also has some truth to it. When people don’t understand something or they are jealous of something they can be rude or hurtful because they don’t know how to express themselves. Redheads often get teased for being different, and usually, that ends once they grow up because adults learn to express themselves.
4. Redheads get all the confidence
If you ever feel down about your red hair, just go out into public. Someplace frequented by older people, perhaps? Even better. Most redheads will tell you they can’t visit the grocery store, library, mall, post office, etc without someone commenting on their hair. Most of the time these comments are sweet and genuine compliments and many of us redheads are so used to them, that we forget to feel thankful for them.
5. Know you’re unique, rare, one-of-a-kind and there is a special “holiday” just for you
We don’t have to tell you red hair is rare — you already know natural redheads make up less than 2% of the population. Your confidence has to come from within and the more inner confidence you have, the more you will shine. To add to your amazingness, National Love Your Red Hair Day is celebrated by thousands (redheads and non-redheads) annually. Blondes and brunettes can’t say the same, just sayin’. You’re a rarity and perfect — just the way you are.
Rock it like a Redhead!
