6 Bob Hairstyle Tips for a Chic Fall Redhead Refresh

Short hair may be calling your name and we're here for it

If the fall weather has you longing to chop your red hairdo it! Hair grows back and life is too short to wish you had a haircut. If you’re thinking of making the switch to shorter hair, especially a bob, here’s everything you need to know:

1. Pick your length

A bob is a short to medium-length haircut, typically sitting between the chin and shoulder. There are other lengths of bobs, so it’s important to pick the right one for you. Besides a traditional bob, you could choose:

    • A-Line Bob: A standard bob is even length all around. An A-line bob is shorter in the back than the front.
    • French Bob: French bobs are much shorter and usually hit around the mouth. French bobs are usually accompanied by bangs, but you could go without them.
    • Lob: A longer bob, usually around collarbone length is called a lob.

2. Layers or blunt

Bobs can be layered or blunt cut (all one length). Each style gives a different look. If you have thick hair, a layered bob may help to add more body and keep it from looking triangle-shaped. If you have thin hair, a blunt bob will help add the illusion of more volume

3. Embrace your texture

If you have curly or wavy hair, it’s important to embrace your texture. When hair is cut short, often the wave or curl pattern becomes more apparent. This is because the hair is healthier and closer to the root and also it’s not weighed down by the length. Natural texture can add more dimension to your bob.

4. Decide if you want bangs

Bangs look super cute with any length of bob, but they are a big commitment. If you’ve never had shorter hair, try going short first and adding on bangs later once you’ve gotten used to your style. Bangs are tricky and learning both at once can be a lot. Additionally, with short hair, it’s hard to keep it out of your face, and bangs add to that.

5. Prepare for maintenance

Shorter hair requires more maintenance. Depending on your hair texture, you may need to style your short hair daily to get it how you want. Additionally, you may need to wash it more than you did your longer hair. Short hair cuts also require more frequent salon visits to keep them at the length you like.

6. Relearn how to use styling tools

You don’t have to throw out all your old styling tools once you cut your hair. You may find some of your tools don’t work the same anymore, but all it takes is some practice to relearn them and figure out what styles you can do with the tools you already own.

Rock it like a Redhead!
