Redhead-Approved Makeup That Won’t Smudge in The Heat

Tips to keep your makeup on in the brutal heat

You might have a Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand and feel bits of briskness in the mornings, but much of the United States is still above 80 degrees in September. The final weeks of summer can be relentlessly hot and makeup can melt right off the face. Do you want to know makeup won’t smudge or melt in this heat? Keep reading:

1. Prime your face

A prepped and primed face is the best way to ensure your makeup lasts through the heat. To ensure your makeup stays put in the heat, especially if you have red hair, start with a clean, moisturized face. Choose a mattifying or oil-control primer to create a smooth canvas. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen before the primer for sun protection.

2. Use long-lasting face and brow products

There are a lot of makeup products we love, but some simply stand up to heat and sweat better than others. Finding long-lasting face products is a key step in making sure your makeup lasts. Concealer, foundation and brow products are three products that usually smudge or fade in the heat. One thing to look for is concealers and foundations that are waterproof, or packaging is marked as “longwearing”.

To ensure your concealer, foundation and brow products withstand the heat, begin with well-hydrated skin. For concealer, select a shade that matches your skin tone or is slightly lighter, and gently blend it over blemishes and under-eye areas. As for foundation, opt for a matte, long-wear formula that complements your skin tone. Apply it evenly, blending meticulously along your jawline and hairline.

For your brow gel, opt for the Finally Have Brows Longwearing. Guaranteed to last 10+ hours and made for redhead brows:

3. Opt for cream products for makeup

For most other makeup products, if you have a good base, things will stay in place. Wear your everyday blush, bronzer, and mascara (opt for waterproof) on top of your sweat-proof face makeup. When it comes to blushes and bronzers, powder products may stay more pigmented, but too much powder can become cakey. Instead, opt for cream products, and set with a light dusting of your favorite powder product when you set your whole face.

4. Set, Set, Set

Finish with a setting spray designed for hot weather. Throughout the day, have blotting papers and a compact with pressed powder on hand for quick touch-ups, ensuring your makeup remains fresh and long-lasting regardless of the temperature.

If you don’t lock everything in place, your makeup is bound to be a melty mess. To avoid creasing, set everything in place with a powder first, and then go in with a setting spray to lock it all down.

5. More tips for making your makeup last in hot weather:

  • Opt for matte products over dewy. Dewy products will make you look shinier and sweatier.
  • Apply setting powder to the bridge of your nose where your sunglasses sit to avoid creasing in your foundation.
  • Skipping the mascara on your bottom lashes will help reduce transfer, if you do opt for bottom-lash mascara, use waterproof.
  • Make sure you use lip liner to help reduce bleeding/smudging of your lipstick.
