Have You Heard of the St. Patrick’s Day Ginger Run?

H2BAR is hosting one this year and we can't wait for you to join it with us!

St. Patrick’s Day is widely associated with redheads due to the large percentage of redheads in Ireland. If you’re a redhead, you’re bound to get questions about your Irish heritage at some point or another, even if you aren’t Irish at all!

Did you know colleges host annual “Ginger Runs” on St. Patrick’s Day?

Boston College embraced the link between redheads and St. Patrick’s Day by hosting the First Annual Ginger Race in 2024. The “dash” only lasted about a minute while students ran between mods (modular housing buildings) 3 and 30. What’s unique about this event isn’t the race aspect; it’s how many people came out to support and cheer on the 40 redheads who participated in this niche run.

The run was advertised on a social media account called bc.gingers with a flyer that read:

1st Annual Boston College, Running of the Gingers. Are you a ginger? Do you know a ginger? Join us in the mods for the 1st Annual BC Running of the Gingers! It’s What St. Patrick Would Want

A video posted to the Instagram account showed how many students showed up for this ginger display on St. Patrick’s Day. See it all below. This may be Boston College’s first time having a Ginger Race, but other colleges nationwide have this same tradition. Some races are small, and some are pretty large, like the annual Ginger Race at Notre Dame or the dash at University of Virginia.

How to be a Redhead is hosting a “Ginger Dash” & pop up on 3.15.25:

Yes! We’re hosting an event at the Dallas St. Patrick’s Day Parade this year on March 15, 2025. Our event, “The How to be a Redhead Experience,” will feature a Ginger Dash, a short run of less than 50 meters designed to go viral with photographers and videographers present.

This event is aimed at celebrating redheads and attempting to break the record for the largest gathering of redheads in one place. It also includes free products, a pop-up experience, and parade viewing along the route. The event is free, but registration is required

If you’d like more details or to register, check our official pages or Eventbrite listing and check out all the information below:
