Most redheads have thin, sensitive skin and for some of us, it results in redness of the skin even from the slightest touch or rub. Ever wonder why that is? We’re here to answer the question and provide options to stop the itching.
Why does redhead skin turn red?
The biggest reason your skin may turn red upon touch is simply that it’s sensitive. Redheads have more sensitive skin and any sort of rough touch or pressure can cause irritation. Additionally, new skincare products can irritate the skin as well if you’re having a reaction.
How can you prevent redness?
The best way to prevent redness of the skin is to avoid scratching or excessive touching. Use a light hand when applying creams and makeup. Avoid heavy exfoliants and always spot-test new products before applying them to a large portion of the skin.
Always keep Cortizone cream handy
This trick seems simple but it can be a lifesaver. The best way to stop scratching (or worse, bleeding) is to apply Cortizone cream to stop the itching.
What about dermatographia?
According to The Mayo Clinic, Dermatographia is a condition in which lightly scratching your skin causes raised, red lines where you’ve scratched. Though not serious, it can be uncomfortable. Dermatographia is a condition also known as skin writing and occurs in less than 5% of people, but you could have it, so consult your dermatologist if the redness is really bad.
