There are a lot of different hair products out there, and one of the most common offer moisture for the hair. Now some of us redheads really need moisture, but some of us redheads are lacking protein in the hair and aren’t getting the same benefits from moisturizing products.
We wanted to find out more about how to tell what your hair needs and which products are good for helping your hair be healthier. We asked Caleb Backe, Health & Wellness Expert for Maple Holistics to tell us a little bit more.
“Your hair requires moisture in order that it retains its elasticity, while the protein (usually keratin) in your hair ensures your tresses remain healthy and help to prevent damage.
You can usually tell if your hair requires more protein or moisture. The simplest way to determine this is to take a strand of hair, either wet or dry, and gently stretch it out. If the hair doesn’t stretch and breaks then you should apply moisture to your hair. Otherwise, to tell if you need more protein, whilst brushing your hair if your strands are falling out, then it is likely you need more protein.
If your hair requires more protein, then it is recommended you use a keratin mask on your hair to help reconstruct your damaged hair. Otherwise, if your hair requires moisture, then using an argan oil or a hydrating hair mask on your hair is definitely the way to go!”
