Emergency Skin Rescue Tips: What To Do When You Really Need To Beat Dry Winter Skin

Few tips and tricks for redheads who can't seem to beat their dry winter skin

Nobody likes dry, flakey skin and in the cold, dry months of winter, it’s very common for redheads to suffer from exactly that. Combatting dry skin during the winter months can be such a pain. We all know to drink enough water and use a heavy moisturizer, but what can you do if you’re still struggling with dry winter skin? Here are a few tips and tricks for redheads who can’t seem to beat dry winter skin.

1. Try facial scrubs

If your dry skin is flakey, you need to remove dead skin before you can hydrate and nourish the skin beneath. Your everyday exfoliating products might not be cutting it, so trying a targeting facial scrub will help you get a clean slate.

3. Limit sun exposure

You might think you don’t need to worry about sun exposure in the winter and while the chances of you getting a bad sunburn are low, the bright winter sun can still have a negative effect on dry skin. If you’re struggling to get dry skin under control, try limiting your sun exposure and always wear sun protection no matter the temperature.

4. Adjust your diet

The food you eat can have a big impact on your skin. There are a few foods you probably don’t eat regularly you can try adding to your diet to change your skin and make it more hydrated. A few of these foods are liver, sweet potatoes, red peppers, avocados, kiwi, cod liver oil, oysters, and turmeric.

5. Add occlusives to your routine

Occlusives are moisturizing agents that help to give your skin a protective barrier. This helps with moisture loss. Popular occlusives included petroleum jelly, beeswax, shea butter, and squalene. Look for products that have these ingredients, or try creating an at-home mask with straight products.
