When the seasons start to change, my redhead skincare routine does too. I do this routine for about 30 days from right now until the start of autumn. Give this redhead-nourishing morning routine a try:
1. Hydrate
After getting a good night’s sleep, wake up and drink water. The immune system can weaken as cold weather pushes in, so I also add lemon and ginger to the water. They are a rich source of vitamin C and antioxidants, which both have immunity-boosting properties.
2. Stretch
Warm your body up slowly and comfortably by doing refreshing stretches. If you think you’d like it, try adding a short morning yoga session before you eat your breakfast. This will awaken your body for the day and jumpstart your digestion which is great to take in all the breakfast nutrients. Even just doing the cat-cow stretch in bed for a minute after waking is a good start!
3. Wash your face
Next, rinse your face with cool water only. Hot water opens your pores, and cold will help close them for a smoother look. Plus, if you wash your makeup off at night, washing again in the morning might lead to drying out.
4. Tone and moisturize
Dab a light toner on with a cotton ball or a spray, like rose water or aloe water. Next, apply your serums, oils and moisturizers. These are my summer-to-fall favorites:
This toner is tried and trusted. Prepping with this for moisturizing is important for the pH level of your skin to balance. Dickinsons’s also has a witch hazel toner infused with rose water. Bonus!
Heritage Store Rosewater Facial Toner w/Hyaluronic Acid
This is 100% distilled Lebanese rose petal toner. While it’s an aromatic benefit, your skin is thanking you. It promotes hydration, soothing, and tightening without drying out. This also drives out acne-causing bacteria!
Clinique’s Dramatically Different Hydrating Clearing Jelly
This moisturizer is perfect for light, yet penetrating, hydration. This product is oil-free and contains 1% salicylic acid. It has anti-blemish qualities and is wonderful for a morning routine.
6. Don’t forget your SPF
Make sure to finish off with your favorite SPF!
Kinship Self Reflect Probiotic Moisturizing Sunscreen Zinc Oxide SPF 32
This SPF doesn’t leave a white cast, doesn’t wreak of sunscreen, and is 32 SPF. It is redhead-approved and definitely end-of-summer/beginning-of-autumn ready.
7. Get dressed and make your bed
This will keep you from wanting to lay back down, which could be counterproductive. Embrace the day!
8. Eat breakfast
You can plan your breakfast the night before. Foods like guava, blueberries, kiwi, and strawberries are amazing for red hair by supplying all the nutrients you need to produce collagen. Other great breakfast choices are Greek yogurt with chia seeds, or some scrambled eggs to make sure you get enough omega-3. If your vegan or vegetarian, overnight oats topped with granola and fruit are an alternative.*
