Many are choosing to stay home this Halloween or will safely attend a costume party with close friends and family. Since redheads always stand out in a crowd, it’s our duty to honor Halloween to the best of our abilities. But alas, time gets away from us and we may need an added dose of eleventh-hour Halloween costume inspiration.
Here at How to be a Redhead, we’re here to help you connect with your fiery ginger spirit. Read on for five quick and easy Halloween costumes that you can throw together with items you may already have in your closet:
1. Carmen Sandiego
Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? If you’re not familiar with her, she’s the main character in the mystery video games, Carmen Sandiego.
If her year was anything like 2020, she probably didn’t travel very much. But with her exotic beauty and stylish ensemble, Carmen makes for one sexy seductress of a Halloween costume. A trench coat, boots, oversized hat (craft yours out of felt, if needed), and a classic red lip.
2. Kim Possible
Kim Possible, an early 2000 comedy-adventure television series, could be the costume for you — especially if you are you one of those high-achievers during quarantine. Recreate the look with a smooth blow out for your beautiful red locks, a black crop top paired with some baggy cargo pants, a belt, gloves, and sneakers.
3. Didi Pickles from Rugrats
For you redheads who love to style your hair in new and exciting ways, Didi Pickles is here to serve you some Halloween inspiration. Didi’s Nickelodeon cartoon character played the mother of the famous Rugrats main character/toddler, Tommy. This is an easy costume! All you need is a comb, a lot of teasing, some hair spray, and bobby pins, glasses, a red dress, and yellow jewelry. It is sure to add a touch of nostalgia to your Halloween season!
4. Barb from Stranger Things
With so much time spent at home this year, so many of us have connected with our inner introverts. Enter the ultimate wallflower, Barb from Netflix’s Stranger Things. An oversized pair of glasses, a plaid shirt, stonewash jeans, and bobby pins complete this iconic look (which personally won me the best costume award last year).
Tip: Don’t forget to dig in the attic for your old trapper keeper.
5. Olive from the movie, Easy A
This Halloween costume might not earn you an A for effort but it sure comes in handy when you’re in a pinch. Dark denim, a black corset or strapless top, sleek sunnies, and the unforgettable letter A, and your channeling of Emma Stone’s character is complete.
