This time of year is gorgeous. The crisp air, crunchy leaves, Christmas on the horizon, woolly scarves at the ready. Unfortunately, it is also peak redhead frizz season for some, myself included. The cold air, light rain and dry air all lead to a Princess Mia pre-makeover style hair situation.
Fortunately, over the years I have picked up some handy tricks to ease the frizz and tame a wild winter mane into something a little sleeker, right in time for party season.
1. Condition with the right product
My holy grail conditioner is the John Frieda Frizz Ease Miraculous Recovery Repairing Conditioner. There is a heavier mask version of this product if you need some intensive care, but applying this to the ends of your hair and leaving it a few minutes in the shower creates the same result – less frizz, more shine, and split ends are made almost invisible too. Winning.
2. Try a leave-in conditioner
For the days when your locks need a little extra care, try a leave-in conditioner like Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist [This was in the February H2BAR Box]. Leave in your red hair for a half hour to really put life and bounce back into wavy hair or use it as it says on the tin, as a three-minute miracle conditioning treatment when you’re on the go!
3. Water
This is a clever hack for dry skin, dry red hair or for redhead who suffers from asthma. The heating systems in our houses and offices can dry out our skin, air and contribute to frizzy, brittle red locks. Have an old-school radiator? I do. The trick is to place a cup of water under your radiator, which will evaporate a small amount at a time to replenish the moisture in the air – and your red hair.
For all those with modern homes, invest in a humidifier to add more humidity into the air for your skin and hair.
4. A comb
This, like the water trick, can cost little to nothing and make the world of difference. I always made the mistake of battling through wet hair with a chunky hairbrush, and trying fruitlessly to control bed head in the morning with the same. The comb changed the game. It does less damage to wet hair and leaves curls intact instead of creating frizzy waves in the morning.
5. Opt for a frizz serum
I am not sponsored by John Frieda, but before I ever discovered his conditioners I was introduced to the Frizz Ease Extra Strength Hair Serum. Apply to damp hair before drying for managing wild curls into lovely waves every day or use on a dry hairstyle to tame flyaways and frizzy patches for special events!
