Back in December 2015, we broke the news that Ariel in the new Hans Christian Andersen’s movie, The Little Mermaid, would *not* have red hair.
Actress, Chloe Grace Moretz, shared she would instead be a blonde. She had wanted to dye her hair bright red to match Disney’s iconic mermaid Ariel but, will not because the movie is being based on The Little Mermaid novel by Hans Christian Andersen. “So, I’ll actually have blonde hair,” she shared.
There was complete chaos surrounding the news. Moretz felt the backlash from redheads (and all fans) everywhere. She clarified to Entertainment Tonight about her comment regarding the color of her character’s hair, “I literally just said it in passing. I wasn’t even being super meaningful about it. I was like, ‘I don’t even know what it’s going to be!’ It could be blue for all I know.”
Since, Chloe Grace Moretz has dropped from the movie. We then hoped she would be replaced with someone who has red hair, or someone who could rock a red shade.
Redheads, we are sorry to report that the new Ariel in the newest version of The Little Mermaid will not be a redhead.
Our dreams are officially crushed.
This mermaid will be played by Downton Abbey‘s Poppy Drayton who has dark hair and is completely different than “the mermaid” we all know so well.
Why the change?
We have no idea.
Like Ariel, the mermaid in the film will have certain mysterious conditions and can sing beautifully.
But, c’mon folks.
We’re missing the most important part: her gorgeous red hair.
The Little Mermaid will be a live-action film inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale rather than the 1989 Disney movie. It follows a young girl who discovers an enchanting woman who she believes is the real “Little Mermaid” and is set to come out this summer.
Will it be on your to-do list to watch? Or will you sit back and watch the Disney 1989 film instead?
Rock it like a Redhead!
