Are your red strands feeling the burn?
As all of us know, red hair can take quite a beating in the summer months. So, as August winds down, let’s take advantage of some great new products and hacks to put some life back into those manes of ours!
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
One of my latest hair hacks that really, really works! If your red ends are feeling sticky and fried try this DIY trick. In a regular-sized mason jar, add in 2 tablespoons of Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, then fill with lukewarm water to the top. First, if your hair is long enough, dunk your ends in the jar and wiggle the hair around. This is important to do so you make sure the ends get extra lovin’. Then, tilt your head back in the shower or sink and pour the remaining liquid over your head.
Be mindful of your eyes because the acidity can sting. Rinse thoroughly and avoid your eyes when pouring.
Are you wondering what this does?
Apple cider vinegar is great for balancing the pH of your hair (which is crucial for maintaining your full vivid red hue), relieves scalp itchiness, promotes hair growth, softens hair and tames frizziness, plus it won’t burn a hole in your wallet.
Would you rather buy a self-made product with apple cider vinegar in it? If you subscribe to the H2BAR Beauty Box, the dpHUE Apple Cider Vinegar Leave-In Therapy was included in the July box. Read more here + subscribe.
‘Redhead Friendly’ Tip: This exact same recipe works for the face too! Dunk a cotton ball in the mason jar and apply to clean skin. Watch your skin glow.
2. Rahua OMEGA 9 HAIR MASK
One of my new shower shelf products is the Rahua Omega 9 Hair Mask. It is a great option for redheads who want to plan an at-home spa day or anyone on the go! Slap this generously on your hair after shampooing and leave it in before you condition. Your hair will feel stronger and whole again. I’ve left this on as a pre-shower treatment and applied while I’m jamming in the shower, it works great both ways.
‘Redhead Friendly’ tip for those curly gals: Follow up with Rahua Control Cream Curl Styler for extra hydration and anti-frizz.
3. Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum
One of my favorite things to do when I have a day off or some time to really love my red hair is oil mixing. Garnier Fructis makes a great hair taming serum that you can use on its own or mix with your other favorite oils. I usually mix my favorite oils, twist my hair up in a bun and wrap it with plastic wrap. You may look like a goon, but the heat from your body will be trapped in the plastic wrap; this will open the hair shafts by hydrating more than just the outer cuticle. Follow up with shampoo and conditioning as usual.
I usually keep my plastic wrap on for several hours. It is up to you!
4. Sun Bum Revitalizing 3 in 1 Leave-In Conditioner Spray
This is one of my favorite suncare hair products. It detangles, conditions, and protects your red hair (no fading from the sun!) while enhancing and restoring its natural body. It also helps controls frizz!
Take care of your mermaid locks and Rock it like a Redhead!
