I’ve been a big Anne of Green Gables fan for many years. The main character, “Anne Shirley”, is a feisty, headstrong redhead. One of my favorite storylines is when Anne dyed her natural red hair with disastrous results. She bought hair dye from a traveling peddler who claimed the dye would turn her hair raven black. Anne eventually learned to love her natural red locks.
This story always made me ask myself: we are redheads for a reason, why dye your hair when other women pay hundreds of dollars to replicate it at the salon?
I digress. Now back to Anne. Every redhead can understand her stages in life; there are so many reasons to fall in love with Anne Shirley from the Anne of Green Gables.
Here are four ways she proves being a redhead rocks:
1. Many redheads are known for their tempers and their quick tongues.
And, Anne was no exception. Foot-in-mouth disease is sometimes common among redheads. We just can’t help our selves sometimes. But, redheads are usually passionate and the temper is just a way to show loyalty and love.
2. Redheads are loyal.
Anne was always loyal to her friends and family.
3. Redheads know how to love completely.
If only one thing can be said about Anne, she knew how to love. Whether it was her adopted parents, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, her best friend Diana Barry or her on again/off again boyfriend/future husband Gilbert Blythe; she always returned the love to those who gave it to her.
4. Redheads are once teased, then accept and love their color. In the end, it makes us stronger.
Anne was teased for being a redhead but when she got older, she accepted it. If Anne can live through the childhood torment of her peers and come out as an adult with her head held high, so can we all.
Rock it like a Redhead!
