Lindsay Northen is known for her role CSI:Miami, several commercials and Broadway’s Wicked. We had the pleasure of talking with her about her acting, favorite redhead beauty tips and much more.
H2BAR: Let’s start off by asking, does red hair run in your family?
LN: Yes! My dad has red hair and my younger sister has red hair.
H2BAR: How did you get started in acting?
LN: I started singing first, in about the 4th grade, then started doing school plays in middle school and high school!
H2BAR: And ever since, you’ve been in many productions such as CSI Miami, Wicked and more! What has been your favorite thus far?
LN: Wicked has been my favorite musical. CSI: Miami was my favorite on camera project because I flew to LA for two weeks, so my husband came out with me and we had the best time seeing California.
H2BAR: You play the redhead mother in Breyers Gelato Indulgences TV commercial. Tell us about it!
LN: I play the redheaded mother in a kitchen in 90% of my commercials. It’s my niche. And I love it. That spot took fifteen hours to shoot because we also shot a full out music video! It is now available for viewing on the Breyers Facebook page as well as Youtube.
H2BAR: A recent study came out that the percentage of commercial ads with redheads is over 30% – more than any other hair color! Why do you think this is true?
LN: I think it’s probably a fad. When I first started auditioning for commercials, it was all about being “ethnically ambiguous”/ biracial, so of course I didn’t see a lot of action there. I’m glad red hair is currently in. I’m going to enjoy it for as long as it lasts!
H2BAR: Any upcoming projects for the remainder of 2014 and into 2015?
LN: I shot a Cannon Printer commercial that I haven’t seen yet, and I am still in Wicked on Broadway. Most of the time I am being a mom to my daughter Georgia, who is 1!
H2BAR: You have gorgeous hair! And you rock the side part so well. Do you have favorite hair products you love to use?
LN: Thanks! I do love a side part. My hair has been very challenged since having my baby. A lot of it fell out and is slowly growing out, so I have all these annoying short hairs giving me an unfortunate frizz halo. This too shall pass. I use RUSK STR8 before I blow dry.
H2BAR: We love your freckles! How do you protect them from the sun?
LN: I wear SPF moisturizer every day. I use Neutrogena.
H2BAR: What makeup do you use on a daily basis?
LN: MAC Cosmetics.
H2BAR: How about your favorite lip color to rock?
LN: I am currently in search of a very opaque but neutral/rose lip color that can cover up this big dark freckle I have on my lip. I am a little self conscious about it! It appeared a few years ago. Very annoying.
H2BAR: Who is your favorite redhead celebrity?
LN: I would say Amy Adams but I hear she is naturally brunette. Julianne Moore is definitely one of my favorite actresses.
H2BAR: What is one ‘redhead friendly’ beauty item you could never live without?
LN: Concealer.
H2BAR: How do you have the confidence to get in front of the camera?
LN: Practice, I guess! I really enjoy acting on camera, especially with comedy. I feel very confident when I can make people laugh.
H2BAR: What is a piece of advice you’d like to share with our redhead beauties?
LN: Be yourself, and do whatever you need to do to feel confident. People love to be around people that are kind and confident. Not cocky confident, just enthusiastic and sure of themselves!
