Queen for a Day: How Redheads Can Channel Their Inner Cleopatra

Historians believe that Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt, was a natural redhead. It is rumored that aloe vera was one of Cleopatra’s secrets to staying beautiful and young, and it is said she used henna to keep her hair vibrant. These speculations are partly based on an image found on a wall in Herculaneum, which shows a woman with red hair surrounded by Egyptian motifs. In her book, “Cleopatra the Great,” Joann Fletcher states that red hair became something of a fashion statement in Egypt, writing:

“The red hair of the Germanic tribes conquered by Caesar was particularly prized for this purpose. It was a shade favoured by fashionable Alexandrian women, including some in the royal household. Presumably Cleopatra’s own auburn hair had set the trend…”

As us redheads enjoy the summer months, it’s important to keep beauty tricks in mind from beautiful ‘gingers’ of the past. Sometimes, the oldest tricks are the best. Another beauty trick from the ancient Egyptians is: they used drink shakers for thousands and thousands of years to add spices to their beverages! Many fragrant spices are powerful antioxidants that can help prevent premature aging and skin damage. Take green tea for example. Studies have proven that products containing the green tea extract may help to neutralize the effects of UV rays when combined with an effective sunblock. This is a tip every redhead should know!

This is why we’re loving Starbucks Teavana® Shaken Iced Teas this summer in the following flavors: Teavana® Shaken Iced Blackberry Mojito Tea Lemonade™, Teavana® Shaken Iced Peach Green Tea Lemonade™, Teavana® Shaken Iced Black Tea Lemonade™. This summer, channel your inner Cleopatra, enjoy a shaken iced tea and Rock it like a Redhead!
