9 ‘Redhead Friendly’ Holiday Makeup Looks

Updated: November 23, 2021

The holidays are a fun, festive reason to rev up our everyday redhead beauty looks. As redheads, we know better than to (permanently) experiment with our hair color, so makeup is the perfect opportunity to mix it up and explore a bit. Whether you try a soft, smokey eye or a bold lip, now is the perfect time to explore the endless opportunities the holiday season has to offer!

1. Smokey eye

The trick to a great smokey eye is all about blending. Grab your favorite smokey eye palette like Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky Eyeshadow Palette and start with the darkest color (such as black or dark brown) and apply it closest to the lash line on your lid. Gradually blend in a lighter brown or taupe on top of the lid into the crease. Finish with a little bit of highlighter on the inner corners of the eye and along the brow bone and a few coats of mascara.

2. Burgundy lip

Never underestimate the impact of a beautifully executed lip color. Lip liner is your best friend when trying this look. Be sure to line and fill in the majority of your lips with the liner before using your final lipstick or gloss to help the lipstick stay longer and not smudge. For a budget-friendly option, try Maybelline Sensational Red Lipstick Matte Lipstick in Burgundy Blush.

3. Strong brows

Redhead eyebrows are a crucial element to framing your face and really making your redhead features pop. Think of classic beauties like Audrey Hepburn and Brook Shields who rock strong, defined brows. Be sure to match your color naturally, as going too dark will be stark against your features and take away from the overall look.

Lucky for you, the How to be a Redhead carries the top ‘redhead friendly’ brow gels, powders and pencils. How to be a Redhead also released their first makeup drop! A tinted eyebrow gel called Finally Have Brows. Free shipping on all US orders!

4. Play with earth tones

Earth tones include colors like taupe, moss green, and dark brown. These colors look great on redheads and are an easy go-to whether you’re after a soft daytime or striking evening appearance. Try pairing a deep green shadow with a dark brown liner for minimal work with maximum impact.

5. Golden hues

One of my all-time favorite for redheads: golden hues. The possibilities are endless; from shimmer brick highlighters to deep bronze shadows, the range of tones within this space will emphasize the golden flecks and shades that naturally appear in your fiery locks. One word: glowing. LORAC Unzipped GOLD Eyeshadow Palette will help you achieve this dynamite look.

6. Peach Blush

If you have fair skin, opt for a lighter stroke of this blush (like tarte Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in Glisten) shade on your cheekbones – always in an upward, sweeping motion towards the hairline by your ears. Olive skin tones can go a little darker in hue. Finish with a subtle dab of highlighter on top of the cheekbone to keep the look natural and fresh.

7. Glitter/sparkles

Amp up the festive feeling with a little pop of glitter or sparkle! Go soft with a shimmer eye shadow and frosted gloss or dab a slightly larger glitter fleck on top of your lid for a fun night out. Your eyes will pop with Hourglass’ Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow in Smoke.

8. Cat-eye

Liquid liner and a steady hand are all you need to pull off this classic look. But don’t think you have to stick to black here. Navy blue or charcoal gray are equally gorgeous, unexpected options. stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner comes in a range of smudge-free ‘redhead friendly’ options.

9. Dewy skin

Redheads know the importance of skincare. Lighten up your look by letting your skin take center stage. Mix your favorite foundation with a ‘redhead approved’ moisturizer for an at-home tinted moisturizer. From there, all you need is a light sweep of blush, a flash of pink gloss and a light coat of mascara.
