As a redhead beauty writer, I try a lot of new products throughout the year and there have been a few that have made their way into my redhead summer routine. During the summer, I focus primarily on skincare and keeping my red hair soft and healthy. It’s very humid where I live (East Coast), and my wavy red hair tends to get a bit frizzy. Here are some products I’ve incorporated into my summer routine:
1. Finally Have Lashes®
When it comes to makeup in the summer, one of the only products I’ve been wearing is Finally Have Lashes® redhead mascara. On an average day, I pair the shade Perfectly Auburn with my normal skincare and SPF (sometimes tinted, sometimes not) for a “no-makeup-makeup” look. On days I do wear makeup, I usually go for Perfectly Brown on the top lashes and Perfectly Auburn on the bottom lashes.
Finally Have Lashes Redhead Mascara: $29
2. Moroccanoil All In One Leave in Conditioner
Another way I keep my hair frizz-free and happy in the summer is by using a leave-in conditioner. I’ve tried many over the years and really love how this one doesn’t leave my hair feeling weighed down. It also makes my red hair feel soft and helps with detangling.
Moroccanoil All In One Leave-in Conditioner: $30
3. REDKEN All Soft Shampoo & Conditioner
After seeing rave reviews on TikTok, I decided to give this shampoo and conditioner a try and I am in LOVE! It has made my red hair so much softer and helped a lot with my summertime frizz and flyaways. I think this one will be sticking around long after summer is gone.
REDKEN All Soft Shampoo & Conditioner: $52
4. Cocokind KP Smoothing Body Stick
I suffer from keratosis pilaris (KP), a common long-term (chronic) skin condition. It causes small, scaly bumps on the skin where there are hair follicles. I have KP on my upper arms, and it always gets worse during the summer. And, this KP body stick has visibly reduced redness without any of the irritation I often get from other KP scrubs.
Cocokind KP Smoothing Body Stick: $20
5. Vanicream Vitamin C Face Serum
I was on the hunt for a new vitamin C serum. I wanted something lightweight for summer, but have very sensitive skin and hadn’t had much luck finding one I liked. Then, I tried this one from Vanicream and it’s been amazing. It’s very lightweight and no irritation.
Vanicream Vitamin C Face Serum: $19
6. Paula’s Choice SKIN PERFECTING 2% BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid Exfoliant
It’s really important to keep my redhead skin exfoliated during the summer, and while I love this product for year-round use, I’ve been reaching for it a lot this season. It keeps my face soft, my pores clear and helps me feel confident leaving the house with just some SPF.
Paula’s Choice SKIN PERFECTING 2% BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid Exfoliant: $35
7. innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 36
Speaking of SPF, this is my all-time favorite facial sunscreen. It doesn’t clog my pores or irritate my skin in any way, I don’t experience white-cast and it wears well alone or under makeup. Plus, it doesn’t irritate my eyes at all.
innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 36: $18
8. Aquaphor Lip Balm Repair Stick for Chapped Lips SPF 30
It’s also important to keep our lips protected from the heat and sun — which is why I’ve been loving this SPF 30 lip balm. I can wear it alone for hydration and protection, or layer it under a lipstick or lip tint.
Aquaphor Lip Balm Repair Stick for Chapped Lips SPF 30: $5
9. KERASTASE Elixir Ultime L’Huile Original Hair Oil
I love hair oil. It’s what keeps my hair soft, healthy, and happy. In the summer, I need a hair oil that is both lightweight and can help with frizz. This has been my new holy grail. I apply it to my damp hair before blow drying or air drying, and also to styled hair to add shine and tame frizz.
KERASTASE Elixir Ultime L'Huile Original Hair Oil: $58
