7 Summer Makeup Tips for Redheads

The summer season is in full force. Did you know you are suppose to change up your redhead makeup routine with the seasons? We talked with Los Angeles makeup artist, Lindsey Rivera, about the top summer makeup tips for redheads:

1.  Concealer

“Often times fair skin causes the blueness of people’s veins to show through. I notice on fair skinned clients that their under eyes and eyelids will have a bit of a blue overcast, and sometimes I am actually able to see their veins. A bit of concealer can go a long way in making you look bright eyed and well rested, while banishing the blue tint which can make you look tired.”

2. Foundation

“Matching your foundation perfectly to your skin tone is the most important tip I can give. A wrong shade is going to be more painfully obvious the paler you are. You must not only match your color, but also the undertone of your skin. Determine if you have cool/pink undertones or warm/olive undertones and then search for foundation from there. Unfortunately, it can be very difficult to find a foundation match for extremely pale skin. I recommend looking into Pro brands as many times they have a greater foundation range.”

Tip: Match your foundation to your neck to get the correct shade.

 3. Pink/Cool Undertones

“If you have pink/cool undertones use blue based and pink based makeup on your lips and cheeks. Many times girls with pink undertones will shy away from a pink blush but it will complement your skin much more than peachy ones.”

4. Olive/Warm Undertones

“If you have olive/warm undertones find lip/cheek colors with a peach and coral tones and opt for red lipstick with an orange base.”

5. Tinted Moisturizer

“I almost always use a tinted moisturizer or a sheer/medium coverage foundation on fair skinned clients. If you use a heavy foundation, it tends to look mask like. I then spot conceal any imperfections or discolorations. Lastly, if you have freckles please please do not cover them! It tends to look like a mask, and you look so much better when you embrace them.”

6. Lipstick

“A lot of my clients with pale skin are under the impression that they can’t get away with a bold lip color because the contrast will be to great. I always encourage fair skinned women to go for it. It looks amazing on your skin and while it is bold, it stands out in the best way possible. Red, wine and bright pink are always a good idea.”
