6 Ways to Love Your Red Curls

Updated: November 2nd, 2023

I am a redhead. I also have curly hair that has a mind of its own. After years of fighting my red curls and wishing for straight hair, I have come to embrace it.

Below are my top 6 tips for loving your (red) curls:

1. Just love it

I know it’s a pain to keep your hair under control, and the easy way out is a perm or a bi-weekly blow dry at the local salon, but why sacrifice time and money when you can just love it, own it and rock it?

2. Find a stylist who understands your hair needs

One of the crucial things anyone with curly hair must do (regardless of color) is find the stylist who will cut your hair in a way that is flattering and controllable. For me, the best haircut is where my hair is just below my shoulders: long enough to not turn into a frizz bomb, but short enough to manage easily on a day to day basis.

Tip: The DevaCurl Stylist Finder is packed with pros in your area who can dry-cut and style curly hair like nobody’s business.

3. Use the right products

When you find a product that works for you, stick with it. I personally recommend DevaCurl Deva Curl Define & Control Light Defining GelGarnier Fructis Curl Scrunch and TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock Amplifier. Flip your head upside down when drying your curls with a diffuser. Don’t touch your curls! It will lead to frizz.

How to be a Redhead Soft Microfiber Hair Towel

When drying your hair opt to use a microfiber towel! Introducing the How to be a Redhead Soft Microfiber Hair Towel for Redheads. Because wet hair is at its most vulnerable, this custom microfiber towel gently and carefully absorbs moisture from your red hair and dries it quickly, all while protecting it from stretching and breakage. This design is uniquely shaped to wrap all of your hair securely (no matter the length), with an elastic strap to comfortably keep things in place. Your hair journey starts here, redheads.

4. Own it

When your red hair is uncontrollable or someone mocks you for your hair, remember you are part of a special club that only a rare few are lucky enough to be part of.

5. Keep loving it

Remember that some people spend money and time on having what you have naturally. When someone asks where you got your color or your curls, just smile, hold your head up high and flip those gorgeous red curls. It will make you feel better, I promise you.

6. Get rid of the frizz

Usually, people hate their frizz but love their curls. If so, you might be interested in getting an express keratin treatment. *This treatment does not get rid of your natural waves and curls. It only eliminates frizz.* See the full tutorial below:
