5 Makeup Tips Every Redhead With Freckles Should Know

Your freckles are special, so why not show them off!

Many redheads are blessed with freckles aka sun-kisses. Freckles are beautiful and unique just like red hair, but makeup can make them look dull or even make them disappear. Some redheads may choose to cover their freckles and that’s fine, but here are a few makeup tips for the redheads who want to wear makeup, but still want to let their gorgeous freckles shine through.

1. Match your foundation to your complexion, not your freckles

Freckles are typically several shades darker than the rest of your skin. That is why it is important to select a foundation shade that matches your undertones and not your freckles. A foundation that matches your freckles will most likely be far too dark for your complexion and it will cause your freckles to blend in.

2. Use light to medium coverage

The lighter the coverage of your makeup, the more your freckles will have a chance to show through. Light or medium coverage foundation like CoverGirl’s Clean Fresh in Fair/Light, It Cosmetics CC cream, or even a tinted moisturizer like Laura Mercier’s work great for keeping freckles visible.

3. Avoid heavy-handed application

Just like applying a full coverage foundation will cover your freckles, heavy application of lighter coverage products like concealers will hide your freckles as well. If you are needing a more full spot concealing or building on your coverage, try using a damp beauty blender only in those areas.

How To Use A Beauty Blender: Remember to use a tapping motion when applying concealer or foundation with a beauty blender. This will fully absorb the product into the skin. Using a sweeping or rubbing motion will wipe the product off and cause irritation.

4. Make your products sheerer

If you have products you love that are more full coverage, or you need more coverage in certain areas, another great tip is to mix a little of your foundation with a lightweight moisturizer to make it sheerer. This allows you to customize the level of coverage for the perfect finish.

5. Skip the foundation all together

The best way to show off your gorgeous freckles is to skip the foundation altogether. Try spot treating any blemishes, wearing tinted moisturizer, or just going au natural. Just don’t forget your sunscreen.
