During the winter months, many of us redheads struggle with a dry scalp. The cold, dry air can make our skin dry and flakey. Typically your dry scalp will go away once the cold weather passes, but here are a few ways to combat it in the meantime.
1. Use hydrating products
Make sure you’re using products that promote moisture and hydration of the scalp and hair. This includes your shampoo, conditioner, and other leave-in products. These products will help to add moisture to your scalp and reduce dry, flakey skin.

2. Do a hair mask or leave-in treatment
Hydrating hair masks and leave-in treatments are great for adding a boost of moisture to your hair. Find a hydrating product that works for you and then use it on a regular basis during the colder months of the year to keep dry scalp at bay.

3. Turn down the heat
Hot styling tools, hot water in the shower, and blow drying can all make a dry scalp worse if you’re already struggling. Try using less heat on your hair by lowering the heat, skipping the heat altogether, and always using a heat protection spray when styling.

4. Stimulate your scalp
Once you start treating your dry scalp, you might notice you’ve still got leftover dandruff or build-up that isn’t coming off with your normal wash routine. Try stimulating the scalp with a hair shampoo brush to help get the blood flowing while also loosening any leftover dry flakes.
