Let me start by saying I am very fortunate to have a husband who absolutely loves my red hair, pale skin and freckles. This being said, I did struggle with how men perceived my red hair throughout the years. There seems to be an unspoken redhead attraction spectrum and sometimes, the complete opposite.
Let’s explore some of this spectrum, shall we?
1. The “Not a Chance” Men
These are the men who, no matter what, do not find redheads attractive. I started with them because I want to get them out of the way. For whatever reason, redheads are not their cup of tea. Once I realized this and accepted it, something magical happened. I didn’t care. Even if some are vocal or worse, hateful, about not liking redheads, it doesn’t matter. So a handful of men don’t find you attractive? I say, their loss. Next.
2. The Indifferent Men
These are the men who have never really thought about it. They don’t have a “type.” They are obviously unaware how awesome redheads are and may change their tune if they are fortunate enough to date one.
3. The “I Do Find Redheads Attractive” Men
We, as redheaded women, love these men. They are the ones who see red hair for what it is. Special. They know the myths surrounding redheads aren’t all true, but they sure do appreciate the ones that are, like that spicy attitude and quick wit. They see our gorgeous hair, our white skin and scattered freckles, and it sends a quiver up their spines. They’re not loud and obnoxious about it. We are just their “type.”
4. The “I LOVE Redheads” Men
We can call these men: “the creepers”. Speaking of loud and obnoxious… Raise your hand if you’ve ever heard, “I’ve always wanted to be with a redhead.” I’m sorry. Excuse me?! If you were like me, you had that initial shock of-Oh, the audacity! Should I be flattered? What a creep! Why they think it’s okay to say something like this out loud to begin with obviously shows their character. These are the men who ask if the carpet matches the drapes, if “red on the head means fire in the bed” is true or tip you extra because you’re a redhead and they’re hoping to get lucky after your shift. My response to these creeps is, “Well good luck with that because it won’t be with this redhead.”
This is by no means an exhaustive list of the redhead attraction spectrum. Ladies, real men who find your hair and skin beautiful and irresistible are out there. Don’t settle for the creeps and don’t be discouraged by the ones who just don’t know what they’re missing.
