4 Red Hair Trends Named After Our Favorite Holiday Drinks & Food

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Spring Updos

Updated: November 23, 2021

Women have been dying their hair for ages, but thankfully redheads are born with a beautiful color most people envy.

Red is always a popular hair dye color, but this year, women are turning to their favorite food or drink for inspiration now to get that coveted red hair look. Who can forget the Pumpkin Spice Hair craze from 2015?

Bridget Brager, a celebrity stylist from Herbal Essences, told Today, “Using food and drink-themed names to describe colors or textures makes it easier for clients and professionals to land on a color variation. People are trying new things and using exciting new ways to talk about them. It makes the process of change – which can be intimidating – a little less serious and more fun.”

There are four hair color trends women are asking for at their salons:

1. Mulled Wine Hair

This purple-red shade was popular in the ’90s, but it’s back just in time for the holiday season. Nothing says winter has arrived more than a nice glass of mulled wine, and this rich berry red color is ideal for the cooler months when you want to add a lot of color to your style.

2. Cider and Spice Hair

Cider and spice sound pretty nice, huh? Stylist Ryan Weeden coined the scrumptious term in a recent Instagram post and many women fell instantly in love. This hair color is a triple-threat because it is a trio of brunette, blonde, and red tones that come together for a warm look that has just the right amount of grit.

Julia Roberts has been rocking Cider and Spice locks for quite some time.

3. Peanut Butter and Jelly Hair

This quirky new hair trend courtesy of Maryland-based stylist Megan Schipani. It’s a balayage creation that has a luscious caramel highlight (aka the peanut butter) and deep purple (aka the jelly) tones. The caramel highlight has a nice red hue that is gently woven throughout the deeper tones to make the hair feel a little warmer.

4. Hot Toddy Hair

Raise a glass if you’re up for a gorgeous hair color named after a classic winter drink! Hot Toddy hair looks sweet as honey with its light auburn and blonde balayage tones. It is the perfect cool-meets-warm color. For fair to light skin tones, it is recommended to go with a lighter, golden strawberry blonde tone or bright copper reds.

Actress Bella Thorne is often seen with this color because of its gorgeous dimension.

Celebrity stylist Michael Dueñas told Allure Magazine, “Hot Toddy hair is the perfect winter hair. It’s warm and inviting, and the perfect color to get your hair healthy from the usual blonde in the summer. Then lifting it back up to a beautiful spring color is simple, too! Having a touch – just a touch – of auburn in your color adds depth and richness.”

I can’t tell if I’m inspired… or just plain hungry. Natural redheads are fortunate that they can keep things a little simpler and go au naturale. However, if you’re a ‘by choice’ redhead, you might want to experiment with this season’s hottest hair color trends.

What do you think of all these new hair color trends? Would you ever try them out yourself?

Rock it like a Redhead!
