10 [More] Reasons Why Being A Redhead is Awesome

The list goes on and on!

By: Kim Wacker

Growing up as a redhead was never easy for me. Kids inevitably love to tease others who look different from everyone else. As a teenager, I found it even harder to fit in. Back then, all I wanted was to have blonde or brunette hair; and to look just like everyone else.

Little did I know, as an adult I now enjoy being a redhead and love standing out in a crowd!

Being a redhead is truly something to embrace and be proud of. Here are10 MORE reasons why…

1. Redheads are always remembered.

In a sea of blondes at a party or event, people won’t forget the redhead in the crowd. We are one of a kind.

2. Redheads can wear many colors others can’t.

Green, blue, purple, pink, yellow, orange…and shades of red! They all look good on us. Jealous? That’s a definite wardrobe plus!

3. Everyone wants our hair.

I get approached by strangers on a regular basis asking me where I got my hair color from. My response? “It’s natural, you can’t find this in a bottle!” Not a day goes by where I don’t get a compliment.

4. We have a real and valid excuse for being moody or short-tempered.

Our response, “Sorry, I can’t help it. I’m a redhead and we are known for being fiery!”

5. Men are fascinated with us female redheads, and I mean really fascinated.

They’ve heard the stories about us (good & bad), and are completely mystified and intrigued.

6. Redheads smell better – it’s true!

Studies have shown that redheads have the strongest scent of all women. How cool is that? I constantly get approached by both men and women who tell me how good I smell.

7. We instantly bond with other redheads – it’s almost like meeting your long-lost twin.

We gingers always stick together. You can never have too many allies!

8. We have our own significant holiday (well, a few holidays).

Redhead Day takes place every September in the Netherlands. OK, so it might be a little difficult to find us in a crowd at this event.

How to be a Redhead also created National Love Your Red Hair Day, which is celebrated annually on November 5th.

9. We don’t feel as much pain as the average person.

That’s because we release an endorphin-like hormone that limits our feelings of pain.

10. Finally, we can easily find a Halloween costume.

As a child, I dressed up as Raggedy Ann, Anne of Green Gables and Pippi Longstockings.. to name a few. There will always be a famous redhead to emulate, and we don’t even need a wig!

There’s certainly more than meets the eyes when it comes to being a redhead. So, the next time you see a ginger, remember: we are special and unique and should be adorned! This is one of my favorite quotes about redheads…

“They make up just two percent of the population. So, they’re extraordinary. Redheads are too numerous to be ignored, too rare to be accepted.”
