WATCH: Redhead Makeup Tips for Blonde Eyelashes and Eyebrows

Natural redheads sometimes have very blonde, almost translucent, eyelashes and eyebrows. The rules for applying makeup on redheads are completely different than for blondes and brunettes. Here are the best redhead makeup tips for blonde eyelashes and eyebrows:

Blonde Eyelashes:

1. Face makeup and eyeliner should already be applied.

2. Apply mascara from the underneath and brush upwards. If you feel like you can still see traces of your blonde eyelashes at the base, wiggle the application wand at the base of the lashes, then brush outwards from underneath. It will cover up any blonde eyelashes and make your lashes look longer and thicker.

3. Brush mascara on next eye.

Blonde Eyebrows:

1. Brush eyebrows upward using an eyebrow brush comb.

2. Using an eyebrow powder, choose a color a shade lighter than your red hair.

3. Dip your brush into the powder, tapping off the access.

4. Starting at the arch, fill in your brow from that point back. Whatever is left from the brush, fill in the front of the brow.

5. Gently blend in with eyebrow brush.

6. Repeat on second eye.

7. Using a clear eyebrow gel, brush the eyebrows upward to lock in the eyebrow shape and color.

Rock it like a Redhead!

40+ natural redhead, as you age, you want to put on mascara first, since it tends to flake off right into your under eye wrinkles. Use a q-tip to gently remove the smudges.

Apply moisturizer, BB cream, foundation as normal (all with good SPF sunscreen of course), then add final coat of mascara and apply under eye concealer. It will keep you from having the mascara flake or smudge into wrinkles, making them looks worse.

This was super helpful, but if you are like me and can only afford products you can find at Walmart I recommend Revlon’s Brow Fantasy Dark Blonde. It is a pencil that comes with brow gel to help it stay all day ad is super easy to use.

Yes, that’s exactly the product I use. I hope they never discontinue it like the last brow product I loved, a double ended Loreal pencil and brow powder with rubber blending tip all in one. I broke down and cried at Walgreens over that one.

So the tip is….apply mascara the same way you normally would, no matter what colour your lashes are? Great, thanks for that.

That girl does not have blonde eyebrows! Can we get some tips for totally bleach blonde (basically white) brows? I have a heck of a time filling mine in and don’t want to get them tinted because of the chemicals.

Hi Katherine Moen! I have red hair, blue eyes, and bleach blonde nonexistent eyebrows. I use Mac eyeshadow in ‘omega’ – it looks like gray / taupe in the pot, but it works like a charm. I find most brow products for redheads are too red and look really fake on me. My Instagram is @mennanation (so you can look at my brows before you take my advice). Oh and I use a short angled brush for acrylic/watercolor from an art supply store – much cheaper than cosmetic brushes, and works for me. Good luck!

I also agree that eye makeup should be last because I always manage to get mascara places other than my eyelashes… also it says tap of the “access” when it should be “excess”

I get my eyelashes tinted with a natural vegetable dye. It is not very expensive and lasts several weeks. My eyelashes and eyebrows are translucent, white or as close to colorless as you can imagine. With mascara alone, even with an expert applying it, I always have visible blonde roots. Having my eyelashes tinted makes me feel like I wake up dressed. I wish I had discovered it much earlier.

Getting my eyebrows tinted is always a little dicey though. I can only have a little bit of light brown tint done to them. (Many times I have walked away looking and feeling like Groucho Marx).

I also have white eyelashes and eyebrows, and while lately I’ve been experimenting with new eyebrow products, my usual go to since I fist started wearing makeup has been Maybelline Expert Wear brow pencil. In my experience the light brown works best on red heads with white brows as the darker colors can be too much and the blonde tends to almost look like a grey-green color on. You should have a fairly steady hand to make sure you fill them in properly and an eyebrow brush helps even out the coloring as needed.
